Bascom Leads Warriors at Otter Invitational
SEASIDE, Calif. — The Stanislaus State men's golf team wrapped up its fall season with an 11th-place finish at the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at the Bayonet Golf Course.
The Warriors improved their team score in each round, carding 311-301-299 for a 911 total. Western Washington captured the team title at 872 (+8), followed by Hawaii Hilo and Colorado State Pueblo.
The first two rounds were played under rainy and windy conditions at the challenging Bayonet layout, making scoring difficult across the field.
The Otter Invitational field included several teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll (Oct. 4). Chico State entered the week ranked No. 20 nationally, while Cal State East Bay sat at No. 17. Colorado Christian, CSU Pueblo, and host Cal State Monterey Bay were among the programs receiving votes, underscoring the event's depth and competitive balance.
Western Washington's Conrad Brown earned medalist honors with a 3-under-par total of 141, highlighted by a closing 69 (-3) to secure the individual title.
Sophomore Owen Bascom led the Warriors with a 54-hole total of 222 (+6) to finish tied for 16th in the 96-player field. Bascom posted rounds of 75-75-72, closing strong with an even-par final round. He also carded seven birdies over the three rounds.
Ricky Sullivan (76-80-74) and Chase Bird (81-73-76) each tied for 52nd at 230 (+14). Sullivan recorded five birdies during the tournament, while Bird finished with four.
Riley Kirk (81-76-77—234) and Carson Diaz (79-77-79—235) rounded out the team scoring. Diaz tallied four birdies, and Kirk made three over his 54 holes.
Competing as an individual, Ethan Gonsalves shot 80-88-74 for a 242 total (+26) and notched five birdies during the event.
