Women’s Soccer to Begin Conference Play This Weekend at Home
TURLOCK, Calif.--- After starting the season 3-2-2 in their seven non-conference matches, the Stan State Warriors will return home to begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this weekend hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles at Warrior Stadium. This Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m., Stan State will face Cal State Dominguez Hills. in its annual Kick Cancer Match. Two days later at 2:00 p.m., the Warriors will host Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, October 6.
LAST WEEK: Stan State finished its non-conference slate this past week 0-1-1. The Warriors started the week with a 1-1 draw with Biola on September 23. Sabrina Cabrera scored their goal in the 59th minute on a cross from Kaley Miller. They finished the week with a 2-1 loss at Chico State on Saturday afternoon. On her first touch of the season, Jocelyn Figueroa scored the Warriors' goal in the 47th minute.
STAN STATE IN REVIEW: The Warriors enter this week with a 3-2-2 overall record. Stan State are averaging 1.14 goals a game while giving up just 1.00 goals a game. Aliah Avila leads the team with her six points and two game-winning goals. Avila is tied with Jocelin Roa for the team lead each with two goals scored. Kaley Miller is tied with Avila on the team each with two assists. Shauna Johnston has scored the Warriors'' other game-winning goal. Natalia Ochoa has posted a 0.50 goals against average in her six matches in goal. She has recorded 16 saves with a .889 saves percentage along with two shutouts. Malia Allen has seen action in four matches in goal. Allen has posted a 1.69 goals against average with ten saves and a .667 saves percentage.
CCAA/NCAA RANKED: Three Warriors are ranked in the top ten in eight statistical categories in the CCAA. Natalia Ochoa is second in saves percentage (.889), third in goals against average (.495), tied for fourth in shutouts (two), and ninth in saves per game (2.67). Ochoa is 23rd in the nation in NCAA Division II in saves percentage and 25th in goals against average.
Aliah Avila is tied for second with her two game-winning goals, tied for fifth with her two assists, tied for seventh with six points, and tied for eighth with her two goals scored. Kaley Miller is tied for fifth with her two assists.
TOROS IN REVIEW: Cal State Dominguez Hills enters Friday's contest with the Warriors with a 2-3-1 record after losing 3-0 at Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday. Eight days before their match with the Golden Eagles, CSUDH defeated Colorado Christian on the road 1-0. The Toros are averaging 0.83 goals a game while giving up 1.67 goals a game. Alyssa Edwards leads the team with her two goals and four points. Alyssa Villalobos has a team high two assists. Kaila Tone and Laurel Durkin each have scored the Toros' game-winning goals. Audrey Haman has posted a 2.00 goals against average with a .680 saves percentage, one shutout, and 17 saves in five matches. Gianna Staniek has a 1.33 goals against average in two matches and Kylie Yuzon has a 0.00 goals against average in 45 minutes in goal for the Toros.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Cal State Dominguez Hills leads the all-time series with the Warriors 18-12. Stan State is 8-2 in the last ten meetings including defeating the Toros 2-0 in 2023 in Carson. Aliah Avila scored one of the Warriors' two goals.
GOLDEN EAGLES IN REVIEW: Entering its match with Chico State this Friday evening, Cal State Los Angeles is 3-0-3 after defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 this past weekend. The previous week, the Golden Eagles played to two draws both 1-1 versus the defending NCAA Division II National Champions, Point Loma, and Biola. They are averaging 1.67 goals a game while giving up 0.67 goals a game. Reyna Roman leads the way with her three goals and six points. Delia Bocanegra is second on the team with her five points (two goals, one assist). Shelby Melin leads the team with her three assists. Liliana Gonzalez, Destiny Moedano, and Mia Del Muro each have scored the Golden Eagles' game-winning goals this season. Taesja Paopao has posted a 0.67 goals against average with 23 saves and a .852 saves percentage. She has three shutouts in goal with them coming against Hawai'i Hilo (0-0), Vanguard (1-0), and Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-0).
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series 14-13-5 with the Golden Eagles. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in Los Angeles in 2023. Stan State defeated the Golden Eagles in Turlock 2-1 in 2022. Alexis Brewah scored the game-winner with seven minutes left in regulation on a penalty kick.

UP NEXT: After Sunday's match with the Golden Eagles, Stan State will be back on the road for a pair of matches October 11 and 13. The Warriors will be in Seaside for a 7:00 p.m. match with Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, October 11. They will finish their road trip in San Francisco for a 2:00 p.m. starting match with San Francisco State. Stan State will return home on Student Affairs Night on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m., when the Warriors entertain Cal Poly Humboldt.

Owen Bascom led the Warriors with his two-over 218 to finish in a four-way tie for 17th place.
