Stanislaus State Cross Country Continues Strong Start; Heads to San Francisco for SF State Invitational Friday
TURLOCK, Calif. — The Stanislaus State men's and women's cross country teams continue to impress through the early portion of the 2025 season, turning in strong performances at the Kim Duyst Twilight and the UC Riverside Invitational. The Warriors now head to San Francisco for the SF State Invitational this Friday, October 10, at Golden Gate Park — their final tune-up before the CCAA Championships.
Warrior Women Ranked No. 13 Nationally, No. 1 in the West
As of the Oct. 1 rankings, the Warrior women are ranked 13th nationally and No. 1 in the West Region according to the latest USTFCCCA poll. They have opened the season with a pair of outstanding outings. At the Kim Duyst Twilight on September 13 in Ceres, the Warriors claimed the team title by one point over Sacramento State, 75–76. Annie Wild led the way with a third-place finish in 21:02.7, followed closely by Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva (10th, 21:22.1) and Bela Moreno (11th, 21:25.9). Izzy Soto (27th, 21:47.0) and Stevie Holguin (29th, 21:48.2) rounded out the scoring five, helping Stan State edge several Division I programs in a deep field.
Stan State outran four NCAA Division I schools: Sacramento State, UC Davis, Nevada, and Cal-Berkeley. Beating one D1 team is notable for a Division II program; beating four in a single race underscores the Warriors' national caliber.
Wild's performance also earned her recognition as the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week following the meet.
Strong Showing at UC Riverside Invitational
Two weeks later at the UC Riverside Invitational on September 27, the Warriors showed they belong among the best in Division II with a runner-up team finish behind only one Division I opponent. Sanchez-Silva placed third overall in the 6K invite race in 20:23.1, while Wild finished fifth in 20:25.2. Holguin (19th, 20:57.0), Soto (26th, 21:01.7), and Crystal Hernandez (72nd, 21:32.7) closed out the scoring for Stan State, which totaled 93 points as the top Division II team in the field.
Against a 24-team field packed with Division I talent, the Warriors stood tall, not only emerging as the top Division II program, but also taking down established D1 squads such as UC Irvine, Sacramento State, Cal Baptist, and Southern Utah.
In the open 5K, Bianca Scott (6th, 17:58.5) and Aubrey Webb (27th, 18:27.7) also turned in strong efforts to highlight the team's depth.
Men Building Strength with Oliveira Brothers Leading the Way
On the men's side, sophomore twins Jackson and Mason Oliveira have paced a steadily improving Warrior lineup through the opening two meets of the season.
At the Kim Duyst Twilight, Jackson Oliveira led the Warriors with a 10th-place finish in the 8K race, clocking 23:54.7, while Mason Oliveira followed in 16th at 24:21.7 — giving Stan State two top-20 finishers. Freshman Jonathan Hupman placed 49th (25:13.8), with first-years Quentin Clarke (82nd, 25:45.2) and Patricio Kearney (94th, 25:56.2) completing the top five. The Warriors scored 184 points and were the second-highest Division II team in the field, finishing behind only Chico State. Stan State also topped Division I programs Sacramento State, Nevada, and the University of San Francisco.
Two weeks later at the UC Riverside Invitational, the Warriors battled a deep, Division I-heavy field, finishing 15th out of 24 teams. Jackson Oliveira turned in another standout performance, placing 10th overall in 23:48.3, while Mason Oliveira came through 47th in 24:41.5. Osvaldo Segoviano (104th, 25:16.3), Hupman (117th, 25:24.6), and Kearney (131st, 25:33.2) rounded out the scoring five. Evan Silva (145th, 25:41.6) and Clarke (209th, 27:26.5) also contributed solid efforts as the Warriors showed strong depth and competitiveness.
Warriors Set for SF State Invitational
Both Warrior squads will face a competitive field this Friday at the SF State Invitational, which includes San Francisco State, Chico State, Cal State East Bay, Cal Poly Humboldt, Concordia, Azusa Pacific, and UC Merced. The meet is set to begin around 3 p.m. at Golden Gate Park and serves as the final race before the 2025 CCAA Championships, hosted by Chico State on October 24 at Bidwell Park.
