THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
WARRIORS TO HOST CCAA OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, MAY 2-4
Stan State will host the 2024 California Collegiate Athletic (CCAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday-Saturday, May 2-4 at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.  The championships will begin this Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Day two will commence at 11:00 a.m. this Friday.  The final day of the championships will begin at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday.  The CCAA's final day will be broadcast live on the CCAA Network at www.ccaanetwork/STAN.

MEN'S GOLF HEADING BACK TO REGIONALS FOR 24TH TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Stan State received its third straight invite to the NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional Championships. The regionals are set for May 9-11 at the University Golf Course on the campus of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  The Warriors are seeded sixth in the West Region. 
 
HOPES STILL ALIVE FOR CCAA BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Warrior baseball team still has a shot to receive a berth to the six-team CCAA Baseball Championships, May 8-11 in Pomona, Calif., at Scolinos Field on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona.  Stan State will need to sweep its final road series from Cal State L.A. next week, which runs from May 2-4.  The Warriors went 2-2 this past week in their final home stand against first place, Cal State San Marcos.  Austin Balentine and Caleb Bertoncini recorded back-to-back complete game victories in the first two games of the four-game series on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, 8-4 and 5-1.  Ryan Leonesio drove in five runs for the Warriors while Chris Catalano scored four runs.  Kyle Rachels led the Warriors with his .467 batting average.
 
SOFTBALL FINISHES SEASON WITH THEIR FIFTH SERIES SPLIT
Stan State went 2-2 at Cal State East Bay this weekend in its final four games of the 2024 season.  This was the Warriors' fifth four-game series split. The four other series splits were against Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal State Monterey Bay, San Francisco State, and Cal State San Bernardino.  Mikaela Ferreira hit .500 with a 1.000 slugging and .625 on-base percentage.  She had three doubles and a home run.  Karli DalBianco drove in five runs and Ferreira scored four runs. Sasha Martello and Shelby Frutoz recorded victories in the circle for the Warriors.
 
WARRIORS HAVE RECORDED 11 TOP THREE MARKS/TIMES IN THE CCAA
Heading into this weekend's CCAA Track & Field Championships, eight Stan State track and field student-athletes have recorded eleven top three marks/times in their respective events.  If a student-athlete finishes in the top three in the finals of their event at this weekend's championship, they will earn All-CCAA honors.  Najwa Chouati holds the top time in the 1500 and 10,000-meter runs.  Jason Lindsay and Caitlyn Bell have recorded the farthest throws in the men's and women's hammer.  Ero Doce has the fastest time in the 1500 and 5,000-meter run.  Annie Wild is second in the 800 and third in the 1500 while Jose Garcia is second in the 10,000-meter run.  Hailey Hunter is third in the shot put and Reyna Dismukes is third in the long jump.
 
MEN'S GOLF FIFTH AT THE CCAA'S
Stan State finished in fifth place with a seven-under par 857 at the 2024 CCAA Men's Golf Championships at the par-72 Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club in Santa Rosa, Calif., this past week.  Chris Chomyn finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with his five-under par 211 in the three-round championships.  For the second year in a row, he was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Championships. Cal State Monterey Bay captured the championships with a 16-under par 848 while the Otters' Simon Bjorken was individual medalist with a ten-under par 205.
 
STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE CHRIS CHOMYN AND ERO DOCE
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are men's golfer Chris Chomyn and distance runner Ero Doce.

Chomyn earned CCAA Championships All-Tournament Team honors by placing in a three-way tie for fourth place at the Championships.  He shot a ten-under par 206 to lead the Warriors to a fifth place team finish.

Doce broke his second school record this season, this time the 1500-meter.  He ran a first-place time of 3:43.23 at the Fresno State Invite this Saturday evening.  Doce is currently first in the CCAA and sixth in the nation in NCAA Division II.
