Maragos Scores Team-Leading Third Goal As Warriors Draw 2–2 At CSUSB
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- Stanislaus State earned a hard-fought road draw Friday afternoon, playing to a 2–2 tie with Cal State San Bernardino in CCAA women's soccer action at Premier Field. The Warriors, who were ranked 10th in last week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II West Region rankings, jumped out to an early lead behind goals from Olivia Maragos and a first-half own goal before the Coyotes rallied to equalize in an entertaining opening 20 minutes.
First half: Stan State came out firing, striking just over two minutes in when Maragos buried a close-range finish off a setup from Jocelin Roa for her team-leading third goal of the season. CSUSB answered quickly through Raylene Alcaraz in the 8th minute, but the Warriors regained the lead at 15:36 when pressure in front forced an own goal to make it 2–1. The Coyotes again drew level minutes later on a goal from Mitzali Macias, sending the match to halftime tied 2–2 after a frantic start.
Second half: Both sides tightened defensively after the break, with goalkeeper Zara Mujica recording four saves — two in each half — to preserve the draw. The Warriors' back line, anchored by Katie Smith and Makeila Yancey, cleared multiple corners late as CSUSB outshot Stan State 19–11 but couldn't find a winner.
Warrior notables:
– Olivia Maragos netted her team-leading third goal of the year and now has two in her last three matches.
– Jocelin Roa recorded her second assist of the season.
– Zara Mujica made four saves for her fifth multi-save outing of 2025.
– Stanislaus State moves to 5-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in CCAA play, while CSUSB stands at 4-3-3, 2-0-1 CCAA.
Up next: The Warriors continue their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 12, visiting No. 1 Cal Poly Pomona at 11:30 a.m. The Broncos, who are 9-0 overall and 2-0 in CCAA play, will first host Chico State today at 4:30 p.m. Cal Poly Pomona is the defending NCAA Division II national champion. Stan State then heads north to face Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, Oct. 17 at 12:30 p.m. before returning home to host Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 11:30 a.m. It will be Youth Soccer Day at Warrior Stadium.
