VOLLEYBALL OFF TO BEST START IN NCAA DII ERA
Stan State started its play in the CCAA going 2-0 on the road with back-to-back four-set victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay. Stan State along with Cal Poly Pomona are the only undefeated teams in the CCAA. The Warriors (9-1, 2-0 CCAA) will begin a four-match home stand this weekend facing Sonoma State (Friday, September 27) and Cal Poly Humboldt (Saturday, September 28). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena. The 9-1 record is the best for a Warrior volleyball team in the NCAA Division II ERA.
WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS SECOND SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON
In the Warriors' scoreless draw with Westmont this Friday evening, Stan State posted its second shutout this season. This was the Warriors' second shutout in their last three matches. Natalia Ochoa had three saves en route to her second shutout of the season in goal for the Warriors. For the season, Stan State's defense is allowing 0.80 goals a match with Ochoa with a 0.00 goals against average and Malia Allen with a 2.00 goals against average. The goalkeeper duo has a combined .778 saves percentage with 14 saves. The Warriors will finish out their four-game home stand this Monday, September 23 for a 7:00 p.m. match with Biola.
MEN'S SOCCER 3-1-1 ENTERING FINAL WEEK OF NON-CONFERENCE MATCHES
The Warriors enter their final week of non-conference matches with a 3-1-1 record. They rallied from a 2-0 first half deficit to tie Fresno Pacific 2-2 in Stan State's home opener. Jacob Ramirez scored the Warriors' first goal off a corner kick from Edgar Castaneda. Their game-tying goal came from Adrian Yepez off a cross from Kenneth Solares. Marco Carbajal and Castaneda lead the team with their five points. Carbajal has scored two goals to go with his one assists. Castaneda has recorded a team leading three assists to go with his one goal. Three other Warriors have scored two goals each in Yepez, Elio Corral, and Jacob Ramirez. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has posted a 1.40 goals against average with 16 saves in goal for Stan State.
VOLLEYBALL 2-0 IN CCAA
Stan State started CCAA play 2-0 with road victories over Cal State Monterey Bay (25-16, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20) and Cal State East Bay (25-18, 25-9, 20-25, 25-21). Mariah Iosua paced the Warriors with her 34 kills including a career high 27 at Cal State East Bay. She had .483 hitting percentage with just six errors in 58 attempts. Haley Burdo had back-to-back doubles in the two matches to finish with 44 assists and 27 digs. Gabby Rawson recorded her first double-double in Stan State's win at Cal State East Bay. For the weekend, she finished with 19 assists and 35 digs. Rawson added five service aces while Autumn Kirby recorded four. Kirby added seven total blocks for the Warriors.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY 21ST IN THE NATION
Stan State women's cross country team was ranked 21st in the nation in NCAA Division II in last week's United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rankings. The Warriors have finished second in their first two invitationals of the regular season at the Seawolf Invitational and the Kim Duyst Twilight. Annie Wild led the way for the Warriors in both races. She finished fifth in the 5K Seawolf Invite. At the Kim Duyst Twilight, Wild finished in third place in the 6K race. Stan State is off until October 11 when the Warriors travel to San Francisco to participate in the SF State Invitational at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadows.
WOMEN'S TENNIS TO COMPETE IN THE ITA WEST REGIONAL
The Warrior women's tennis team will compete in the ITA West Regional this Thursday-Saturday, September 26-28 at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex on the campus of Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. This will be one of three invitationals that Stan State will participate in this Fall. The Warriors will be at the Hidden Duals in Livermore, Calif., October 11-13 and the Hidden Duals, October 19, in Stockton, Calif.
HALLOWEEN FUN RUN SET FOR OCTOBER 26TTH
Stan State Department of Athletics will hold the First Annual Halloween Fun Run on Saturday, October 26 on the campus of Stanislaus State. All proceeds will benefit the Stan State Athletics Scholarship Fund. The Fun Run will be a 5K Pond Run on Stanislaus State's campus. There will be a costume contest for all participants. Sponsoring the Fun Run are Dust Bowl Brewing Company, Kiwani's of Greater Turlock, and Rotary Club. MARIAH IOSUA AND ADRIAN YEPEZ ARE THIS WEEK'S STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK, PRESENTED BY KW RECOVERY LAB
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by KW Recovery Lab, are Warrior volleyball player Mariah Iosua and Stan State men's soccer player Adrian Yepez and women's soccer player Aliah Avila.
Iosua played a huge role in the Warriors' 2-0 weekend to begin the CCAA season on the road for the Warriors. The senior outside hitter finished with a .483 hitting percentage with 34 kills in 58 attempts with just six errors. She added one block and four digs for Stan State who is now 9-1 (first time the Warriors have started the season winning nine of their first ten matches in NCAA DII). The senior setter had a career high 27 kills in Stan State's four-set win at East Bay, which ties her for second most in school history.
Yepez scored the game-tying goal in Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Fresno Pacific in Stan State's home opener. He scored the game-winner in the 86th minute off a cross from Kenneth Solares. This was Yepez's second goal this season.
