Warriors Open Road Trip With 2-2 Draw at Biola
LA MIRADA, Calif. — In their first road contest of the season, Stanislaus State nearly secured a comeback victory but settled for a 2-2 draw at Biola on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors erased a first-half deficit with second-half goals from Jocelin Roa and Olivia Maragos, but a late Eagles equalizer in the 89th minute spoiled what looked like a statement win to kick off Stan State's two-match road trip.
First Half Recap:
Playing in its home opener, Biola (2-1-3) struck first in the 34th minute when Peyton Nelson found the back of the net, putting the Warriors in an early hole. Stanislaus State's defense, led by goalkeeper Zara Mujica, kept the deficit at one despite heavy Eagle pressure, with Mujica recording five saves in the opening 45 minutes. The Warriors managed just one corner and no shots on goal before halftime, heading into the break trailing 1-0.
Second Half Recap:
Stan State came alive after halftime. In the 52nd minute, Jocelin Roa converted on an assist from Kellyann Rodriguez to level the match. The Warriors kept pushing forward, and in the 76th minute, freshman Olivia Maragos tallied her first career goal, finishing off a feed from Olivia Kamm to give Stanislaus State a 2-1 lead. The advantage held until the closing minutes, when Biola's Briley Phelps scored in the 89th to deny the Warriors all three points.
