THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
BASEBALL SWEEP MENLO COLLEGE TO BEGIN THE SEASON
Stan State began its season with a twilight doubleheader sweep of the visiting Menlo College Oaks on Saturday. The Warriors took the opener 9-8 in ten innings on a Mac Cabero walk-off single that drove in Tyler Van Dyk with the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth. Austin Balentine picked up the win in relief. Stan State took the nightcap 18-5 in eight innings. Jerry Nix and Robert Valdivia each drove in five runs and hit a home run. Will Crookham picked up the win in relief.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD BACK IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND IN MICHIGAN
The Warrior women's indoor track and field team will return to competition this Friday-Saturday, February 9-10 in Allendale, Mich., at the Big Meet Friday and Big Meet Saturday on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Four Warriors have provisionally qualified for the indoor nationals, March 7-9, in three events. Kaela Dishion is eighth in the nation in the 5,000-meter run (16:28.76) and 16th in the 3,000-meter run (9:36.93). Najwa Chouati is 14th in the 5,000-meter run (16:46.61) and 35th in the mile (4:53.60). Annie Wild is 24th in the mile (4:52.15) and Jacqueline Sanchez is 35th in the 5,000-meter run (17:12.91). Dishion and Wild each have broken the school records in the 5,000-meter run and mile.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TIED FOR FOURTH PLACE WITH SEVEN GAMES LEFT IN REGULAR SEASON
Stan State (13-12, 8-7 CCAA) is tied for fourth place in the CCAA with Cal Poly Humboldt after splitting its games this weekend. The Warriors started their weekend with an 81-69 loss to Cal State L.A. on Thursday. Joia Armstrong paced Stan State with 17 points off the bench. Asha Walker added 15 points and Mya Blake chipped in 11 points. They finished the weekend with a 60-50 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Blake had a game high 18 points and Walker chipped in 10 points.
WOMEN'S TENNIS BEGINS SPRING SEASON WITH A 7-0 VICTORY AT JESSUP
Stan State began its Spring Season with a 7-0 non-conference victory over Jessup in Rocklin this Saturday. Victors at doubles were the teams of Zuzann Dziewiecka/Emma Yu, Annabelle Mulick/Abbigal Mulick and Alyssa Tay/Nicollet Alexander. Winning at singles were Dziewiecka, Annabelle Mulick, Tay, Abbigail Mulick, Yu, and Jaedyn Hendryx.
MEN'S BASKETBALL FALL IN TWO CLOSE GAMES TO TWO OF THE TOP TEAMS IN THE CCAA
The Warriors started their week with an 88-83 loss to Cal State L.A., who is tied for second place in the CCAA, on Thursday evening. John Wade III had a game high 23 points while Dontrell Hewlett chipped in 14 points and Jeremiah Jones added 12 points. Mahda Fallay recorded his first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. No. 22 and first place Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated the Warriors 82-77 on Saturday afternoon. Four Warriors scored in double digits in Jones and Fallay each with 15 points while Cam Walker chipped in 12 points. Wade added 10 points for Stan State (6-15, 3-12 CCAA).
SOFTBALL STARTED OFF SEASON AT CONCORDIA KICKOFF CLASSIC
Stan State started its 2024 season with three games at the Concordia Kickoff Classic in Irvine this weekend. They begin the weekend with a 3-2 loss to No. 25 Northwest Nazarene Friday afternoon. Sarah Warden had a two-run single and Mikaela Ferreira had two hits for Stan State. The Warriors lost 4-2 at No. 14 Concordia Irvine on Saturday. Payton Applequist was three-for-three with a run batted in and Karli DalBianco also drove in a run. Stan State finished the weekend with a 9-1 (five innings) loss to Western Washington. Warden drove in a run and Faith Erb scored the Warriors' run.
MEN'S GOLF AND OUTDOOR TRACK/FIELD'S SEASONS STARTING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 12TH
Stan State men's golf team will begin its season, February 12-13 in San Marcos at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational. They will host the 49th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, March 25-26 at the Turlock Golf & Country Club. The Warrior men and women's outdoor track and field season will begin February 17 in Fresno at the Sunbird Invite. They will host the Kim Duyst Invitational, March 1-2 and the CCAA Championships, May 2-4.

STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE MAHDA FALLAY AND ROBERT VALDIVIA
This Week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are men's basketball forward Mahda Fallay and baseball shortstop Robert Valdivia.
Fallay averaged 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 90% from the field in the Warriors' two games at home. He started with his first double-double of his career with 11 points and 11 rebounds against CSULA. He finished going five-of-six from the field including hitting a trey late in the game. Fallay added a season high four assists with no turnovers against CSUDH.
The returning All-CCAA honoree posted a 1.083 slugging percentage with a .636 on-base and .364 batting averages to lead Stan State to a doubleheader sweep of Menlo College. In the Warriors' 18-5 nightcap victory, he went three-for-five with five runs batted in including three on a home run. He also had five putouts and five assists at shortstop for Stan State.
