Warrior Women’s Cross Country Ranked No. 17 Nationally, Tops West Region in Preseason Poll
NEW ORLEANS — The Stanislaus State women's cross country team has been ranked No. 17 in the 2025 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)/NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Preseason National Poll, released today. Under the leadership of head coach Darren Holman, the Warriors also earned the No. 1 ranking in the USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II West Region Preseason Poll, released Tuesday afternoon.
National Ranking at 17th:
Stan State comes in at No. 17 nationally in the preseason poll. The Warriors are one of four West Region teams in the top 30, joining Biola (23rd), Cal Poly Pomona (27th), and Western Washington (28th). Chico State is receiving votes. Adams State tops the poll, followed by West Texas A&M, Grand Valley State, Colorado School of Mines, and Wingate rounding out the top five.

Returning All-CCAA Warriors:
Three All-CCAA honorees return this season after top-15 finishes at the 2024 CCAA Championships in Fresno. Annie Wild placed third with a time of 21:20.3, followed by Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva in fifth (21:38.4) and Crystal Hernandez in seventh (22:00.7). The Warriors finished second overall, narrowly trailing Chico State. Additionally, Stan State welcomes Gianna Bomarito and Makenzie Kordic from Sonoma State. Bomarito won the 2023 CCAA title with a time of 20:28.3, while Kordic finished 14th (22:20.4), earning All-CCAA honors.
2024 West Regionals Recap:
The Warriors secured a spot at the 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships with a fifth-place finish at the West Regional in Billings, Montana. Chico State won the title, followed by Western Washington, Biola, Alaska, and Stan State. Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva led the Warriors with a ninth-place finish (21:07.39), and Annie Wild placed 13th (21:26.06). Both runners received USTFCCCA All-Region honors for finishing in the top 25.
2024 National Championships Recap:
Stanislaus State made its second NCAA Division II National Championship appearance in three years, finishing 24th in Sacramento, California. Annie Wild led the Warriors with a 67th-place time of 21:47.5, followed by Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva (103rd, 22:11.7) and Crystal Hernandez (149th, 22:36.5).
Preseason West Region Rankings:
Stan State holds the top spot in the USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II West Region Preseason Rankings. Rounding out the top five are Biola, Cal Poly Pomona, Western Washington, and Chico State. Point Loma, Concordia, Simon Fraser, Cal State San Marcos, and Alaska Anchorage complete the top ten.
CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll:
According to the 2025 CCAA Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Rankings, Stan State is picked second behind Chico State. Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Cal State East Bay round out the top six. Also ranked in the top twelve are Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly Humboldt, UC Merced, Cal State LA, and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
2025 Season Schedule:
The Warriors kick off the 2025 season at home on Saturday, September 13, hosting the Kim Duyst Twilight at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, California. The event will begin with 11 high school races starting at 5:15 p.m. The collegiate men's 8K begins at 8:30 p.m., followed by the women's 6K at 9:00 p.m.
Stan State then heads to the UC Riverside Invitational on September 27, held at the AgOps Cross Country Course on the UC Riverside campus. The Warriors wrap up their regular season at the SF State Invitational on October 10 at Speedway Meadows in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
The 2025 CCAA Championships will take place on Friday, October 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Bidwell Park in Chico, California. Stan State will then compete at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships on November 8 at Ash Creek Preserve, hosted by Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. Qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships on November 22 at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
