Warriors Move Up to No. 13 Nationally, Ranked for Third Straight Week
NEW ORLEANS--- The Stanislaus State women's cross country team earned a No. 13 national ranking in the latest NCAA Division II poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday. This marks the third straight week the Warriors have been ranked in the national top 30, after opening the year at No. 17 in the preseason poll and holding steady at No. 16 the past two weeks. The No. 13 ranking is Stan State's highest national position so far this season.
The Warriors climbed the rankings following their impressive performance at the UC Riverside Invitational, where they finished second overall in a 24-team field filled with Division I programs. Stan State was the top Division II team at the meet, led by Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva in third place and Annie Wild in fifth. The Warriors also defeated several NCAA Division I opponents, including UC Irvine, Sacramento State, Cal Baptist, and Southern Utah.
Stanislaus State is joined in the national poll by two other California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) programs, with Chico State ranked No. 16 and Cal Poly Pomona at No. 29.
The Warriors also remain No. 1 in the West Regional rankings for the third consecutive week, leading a strong CCAA presence in the region.
Stanislaus State returns to action on Friday, October 10, at the SF State Invitational in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, beginning at 3:30 p.m. That meet will serve as the final tune-up before the postseason begins with the CCAA Championships on Friday, October 20, at Bidwell Park in Chico.
The NCAA Division II West Regional Championships follow on Saturday, November 8, at Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth, Oregon. Teams and individuals advancing from the regional will move on to the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday, November 22, at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
