Stan State Heads to Southern California for Two Matches

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State's volleyball team hits the road this week for two games in southern California. First, they will face #19 California State Los Angeles (9-4, 4-2 CCAA) on Friday, October 11th at 5:00 p.m. in the Cal State LA University Gym, then California State Dominguez Hills (5-9, 2-4 CCAA) on Saturday, October 12th at 3:00 p.m. in the Torodome.
 
LAST WEEK:  Stan State completed its four-match home stand, dropping the first match against San Francisco State 0-3 (21-25, 21-25, 22-25) on Friday, October 4th, but made a strong comeback to sweep #21 California State San Bernardino 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-22) on Saturday, October 5thMakenna Carrillo led the team in kills over the weekend with 18, while Christallynn Tate followed close behind with 17 and Isabella Saucedo recorded 14. Haley Burdo and Shaelyn Pruiett kept the offense alive with 31 and 26 assists, respectively. Both setters also had a double-double during Saturday's match. As for our defense, Gabby Rawson recorded 31 digs while Burdo made 15 digs. Alex Byrd and Autumn Kirby both had seven blocks to halt the opposing offense. Three service aces were dealt by Gabby Rawson.
 
STAN STATE IN REVIEW:  The Warriors enter this week with a 10-4 overall record and a 3-3 record in their six CCAA matches. Looking at offense, Isabella Saucedo has recorded 131 kills, putting her over three kills per set. With 262 assists this season, Haley Burdo is the assist leader, with Shaelyn Pruiett following with 193. Gabby Rawson leads in service aces with 18, as Pruiett and Autumn Kirby follow with 17 each. Our defense is strong with Rawson also leading in digs with 202. She is followed by Burdo with 111 and Pruiett with 106. Alex Byrd is the team leader in solo blocks with 15, and is tied with Kirby for 54 total blocks, putting them both over one block per set.

RANKED CCAA/NCAA:  As a team, the Warriors are in the top five in the nation in total blocks and blocks per set.  They are third with their 2.97 blocks per set average and fifth with 86 total blocks. Four Warriors are in the top five in five statistical categories in the conference. Alex Byrd leads the conference with 1.41 blocks per set with Autumn Kirby following in second with 1.39. They are one-two again in total blocks: Byrd has 41 and Kirby has recorded 32. Gabby Rawson is third in the CCAA with 156 total digs and fifth with 180 digs per set. Isabella Saucedo is fifth in the conference with a .316 hitting percentage.
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Two Stan State players have continued climbing the all-time career lists. Haley Burdo has moved up in two categories. Burdo is now fifth in service aces with 129 and with 1,949, two assists away in surpassing Jessica Lehner (who recorded 1,950 assists) to become the all-time assist leader. Alex Byrd moved into second all-time in total blocks with 293, while a select few of those also moved her into third for solo blocks at 69. 

NUMBERS GAME: With Stan State's win over #21 Cal State San Bernardino, Lauren Flowers now takes the lead with the most wins against top 25 teams of any volleyball coach in Stan State history. During the four-game home stand, both Haley Burdo and Shaelyn Pruiett recorded double-doubles. Burdo's assists also put her two assists away form become the all-time career assist leader in Stan State NCAA Division II era history. Christallynn Tate led in kills with 32, with Isabella Saucedo close behind at 30. Gabby Rawson kept the play alive with 66 digs over the four games.
Four current Stan State volleyball players have recorded double-doubles in their career as a Warrior in Haley Burdo, Shaelyn Pruiett, Gabby Rawson, and Ellison Weaver.  Burdo twenty in her career including two this season.  Weaver has eleven in her career while Rawson has two.  Pruiett has recorded two double-doubles in her first season as a Warrior coming at Cal State East Bay (16 assists, 11 digs) and Sonoma State (14 assists, 12 digs).
 
GOLDEN EAGLES IN REVIEW:  California State Los Angeles (9-4, 4-2 CCAA), ranked 18th by the ACVA, have won seven of their last 10 matches. The Golden Eagles are coming off of two road wins, taking on Cal State Monterey Bay (3-2) and Cal State East Bay (3-2). Emily Elliot will be one for the Warriors' defense to keep an eye on with her team-leading 296 kills and 29 service aces. The next closest member of her team, Samarah DaCoud, has recorded 99 kills. Many of these kills have been assisted by Arielle Chandler, as she leads with 342 assists. Haley Roundtree leads in blocks with 35, as Zuhal Cetin has the most digs at 119. Emily Elliot also plays good defense, following Cetin with 107 digs.

ALL-TIME SERIES: California State Los Angeles leads the all-time series with Stan State 2-24. The last meeting was on our home ground, with Cal State LA winning in four sets (18-25, 31-29, 16-25, 23-25). Ellison Weaver was the kill leader with nine attacks finding the floor, alongside 22 assists from Haley Burdo, a combined 11 blocks from Alex Byrd and Mariah Iosua, and 16 digs from Gabby Rawson.
 
TOROS IN REVIEW: California State Dominguez Hills (5-9, 2-4 CCAA) will be playing their fourth home game this season against Stanislaus State, having started out the year with two tournaments. They look to Bailey Fuches, with 332 assists, and Ava Hurry, with 139 kills and 15 service aces, to facilitate their offense. Nina Robles, with her 148 digs and 15 services aces as well, is also a key part of the Toros' team. Aleya Starnes will also attempt to make things difficult for the Warriors with her 43 blocks.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors have found success as of late when facing California State Dominguez Hills, winning eight out of the last ten matches. Stan State swept the Toros in three straight sets at Fitzpatrick Arena (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) with 11 kills by Alex Byrd, 30 assists by Haley Burdo, and 19 digs from Gabby Rawson. Burdo also recorded a double-double with her 10 digs pairing with her assists.

UP NEXT: Stanislaus State returns home at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15th for Education Day to face Chico State before meeting them in Chico on Friday, October 18th at 5:00 p.m. The Warriors then return home to play #8 Cal Poly Pomona for our Dig Pink Match on Friday, October 25th at 5:00 p.m. The next day, Saturday, October 26th at 2:00 p.m., Stan State will have an Alumni Match as well as the return of the Pizza Serving Contest when they face Cal State San Marcos.
