Stanislaus State Men’s Soccer Ranked No. 2 Nationally, No. 1 in West Region for First Time in Program History
KANSAS CITY, Mo.---For the first time in program history, Stanislaus State Men's Soccer has risen to No. 2 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 rankings — and stands alone at No. 1 in the West Region.
The Warriors, under the guidance of head coach John Powell, have opened the season with a perfect 4-0-0 record, and their early dominance has not gone unnoticed. Last week, Stan State posted back-to-back shutouts on the road, blanking Simon Fraser 3-0 and Saint Martin's 4-0, further cementing their place among the nation's elite.
Through the first four matches of the season, the Warriors have outscored opponents 13-2 and outshot them 65-30. Emmanuel Duran leads the team with four goals, followed by Gerardo Flores with three, while Kenneth Solares and Christian Brenes have each netted two. Samuel Villanueva has been a key playmaker with a team-high five assists. Stan State has also recorded 12 total assists, while goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez owns a 0.50 goals-against average with a .857 save percentage.
Stan State trails only Lynn University in the national poll but leads all regional competition. Fellow West Region programs Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State San Bernardino are ranked No. 5 and No. 11, respectively.
Up next: The Warriors will host No. 19 Menlo College this Thursday, September 18 at 7 p.m. at Warrior Stadium — a prime-time showdown as they look to extend their unbeaten run and continue their historic start to the 2025 season.
