Stan State’s Annie Wild Named CCAA/FloCollege Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
TURLOCK, Calif. – Stanislaus State's Annie Wild has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/FloCollege Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference announced this morning.
Wild placed third overall at the 14-team Kim Duyst Twilight meet this past Saturday at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, Calif., finishing the 6K in a personal-best time of 21:02.7. Her performance helped lead the No. 17-ranked Warriors to the team title.
This is Wild's first career CCAA Runner of the Week honor and the 15th runner in program history to receive the recognition.
A native of Ripon, Calif., Wild's efforts were pivotal as Stan State captured the team crown with a total time of 1:47:25 and an average of 21:29 per runner. The Warriors edged Chico State—the preseason No. 1 pick in the CCAA coaches' poll—by five points, showcasing the squad's depth with all five scorers finishing in the top 30.
The Warriors also outpaced four NCAA Division I programs: Sacramento State, UC Davis, Nevada, and California (Cal). For a Division II team, defeating even one D1 opponent is a notable achievement; beating four in a single race underscores the Warriors' national strength. With this result, Stan State solidified its No. 17 national ranking and positioned itself as a contender to climb even higher in the NCAA Division II standings this fall.
Stanislaus State will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the UC Riverside Invitational at the AgOps Course in Riverside, Calif.
