THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
WARRIOR MADNESS NEXT TUESDAY, OCTOBER 24
Stan State Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting Warrior Madness on Tuesday, October 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Fitzpatrick Arena on Stan State's campus. This will be a celebration of the Warrior men's and women's basketball seasons beginning, a chance to meet your Stan State Student-Athletes, and to win prizes.
The Warrior men's basketball team will begin their 2023-24 season with a pair of exhibition games at the University of Nevada (Nov. 1, 7pm) and Saint Mary's College (Nov. 6, 7pm). Their regular season will begin on Nov. 10 at Point Loma at 7pm. Their CCAA and home opener will be Nov. 30 at 7:30pm versus Cal State East Bay. Stan State women's basketball team will begin their 2023-24 season with an exhibition game at the University of San Francisco (Nov. 9, 4pm). Their regular season opener will be versus Northwest Nazarene (Nov. 10 at 7:30pm in Hayward). Their home opener will be Nov. 17 versus Academy of Art at 7pm.
WOMEN'S SOCCER MOVES INTO TIE FOR SIXTH PLACE
After going 1-0-1 this weekend, Stan State moves into a tie for sixth place in the CCAA with five matches left in the regular season. The top six teams in the final regular season standings on November 2 will receive a bid to the 2023 CCAA Soccer Championships. The winner of the CCAA Soccer Championships will receive the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II National Championship. Thursday afternoon in Arcata, the Warriors played to a scoreless draw with Cal Poly Humboldt with Malia Allen recording ten saves. Sunday, Stan State defeated Sonoma State 3-1 at home with Allen recording a season high eleven saves for the Warriors (5-5-3, 2-2-2 CCAA). Alexis Brewah had a goal and an assist while Arionna Imhoff scored a goal and Aliah Avilla had an assist. With the victory on Sunday, Warrior head coach Gabriel Bolton is 199-109-40 during his career on the sidelines at Stan State.
VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS CHICO STATE TO FINISH WEEK, 2-1
Stan State finished this week 2-1 to improve to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in the CCAA. They started the week with a four-set loss to then No. 18 Chaminade (20-25, 25-19, 20-25, 17-25). The Warriors rebounded with sweep of the home-home series with Chico State. They swept the Wildcats on Wednesday at home (25-21, 25-14, 25-17). Stan State finished its week with a four-set win over Chico State in Chico (25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17) to win its seventh straight victory over the Wildcats. Samaya Royal led Stan State with 27 kills with Ellison Weaver recording 26 in the Warriors' three matches. Haley Burdo added 53 assists and Eyriana Eatmon had 40. Gabby Rawson recorded 57 digs while Alex Byrd had ten total blocks to lead the Warriors.
They are in ninth place with Cal State Dominguez Hills with eight matches left in the regular season. Stan State is three-games out of sixth place which is currently held by Cal State East Bay and SF State. The top six teams at the end of the regular season on November 11 will receive a berth to the six-team CCAA Volleyball Championships.
CROSS COUNTRY TO COMPETE FOR CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FREMONT
Both Stan State men's and women's cross country teams will be competing this Saturday, October 20 in the 2023 CCAA Cross Country Championships at Quarry Lakes Regional Park in Fremont, Calif. The women's race will begin at 9 a.m. and the men's race at 10 a.m. The Warrior women are looking for their third straight conference title. Stan State's women are eighth and the men are ninth in this week's USTFCCCA West Region Rankings that were released on Tuesday, October 10.
TIPTON LEADS THE CCAA WITH HIS ELEVEN GOALS
Stan State's Tyler Tipton scored his CCAA and team leading tenth and eleventh goals of the season in the Warriors' 0-1-1 weekend. Stan State started the weekend with a scoreless draw at Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday. Robby Rosas had three saves in goal for the Warriors. On Sunday in Turlock, Stan State lost a 3-2 nail biter to Sonoma State despite Tipton's tenth and eleventh goals of the season. Rosas had seven saves in goal for the Warriors, who are now 3-8-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the CCAA which places them in 12th place. They are seven points out of the sixth and final spot for a berth in the six-team CCAA Soccer Championships.
MEN'S GOLF FINISH FIRST TOURNAMENT IN SOMIS
Last Monday and Tuesday, October 9 and 10, the Warrior men's golf team finished in twelfth place at the 14-team Bill Cullum Invitational in Somis, Calif. The Warriors shot a three-round score of 909 led by Nate Jetton's four-over par 224 which placed him a tie for 13th place. Chris Chomyn finished in a tie for 27th place with an-eight over par 228. Stan State continues its fall season this Monday-Tuesday, October 16-17 at The Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif.
WOMEN'S TENNIS BACK IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND IN SAN RAFAEL
Stan State women's tennis team will return to the courts this Friday-Sunday, October 20-22 at the Dominican Hidden Duals at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center in San Rafael, Calif. The Warriors are coming off a strong performance at the ITA West Tennis Regionals, September 21-22 in Fresno.
CRAB FEED SET FOR JANUARY 27
The Annual Warrior Athletics Crab Feed is set for January 27, 2024, at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena on the campus of Stanislaus State University. The Crab Feed benefits the Warrior Athletic Scholarship Fund. More details can be found at www.warriorathletics.com/crabfeed.
STAN STATE DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS HELD THEIR HALL OF FAME CEREMONY
Stan State Department of Athletics inducted four individuals and one team into the Warrior Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The four individuals were Kasey Burlingham (men's track and field), Kevin Cunningham (volunteer/supporter), Alexia Poon (women's soccer), and Jan Schefkowitz (head softball/volleyball coach). STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE ALLEN AND TIPTON
Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are goalkeeper Malia Allen and forward Tyler Tipton.
Tyler Tipton scored his team and CCAA leading tenth and 11th goals of the season in the Warrior 0-1-1 weekend. He connected on his fourth and fifth penalty kicks in Stan State's 3-2 nail-biting loss to Sonoma State on Sunday. For the weekend, he had two goals on seven shot attempts including four on goal.
Allen played a huge role in the Warriors' 1-0-1 weekend against Cal Poly Humboldt and Sonoma State. She started the weekend with ten saves in the Warriors scoreless draw at one of the region's top teams, Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday. Her ten saves tie her fifth on the Warrior single game list in saves. Allen finished the week with a season high 11 saves in the Warriors' 3-1 win over Sonoma State. For the weekend, she had 21 saves and a 0.50 goals against average.
