Stan State’s Saucedo and Byrd Named to All-Tournament Team
The Warrior duo of Isabella Saucedo and Alex Byrd were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Stan State Volleyball Tournament that was held this past weekend at Fitzpatrick Arena on the campus of Stan State. Saucedo was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Saucedo recorded 65 kills and had just 12 errors in 168 attempts in four matches. She had 35 digs and six combined blocks for the Warriors. In Stan State's three-set win on Thursday, Saucedo recorded five kills and seven digs while posting and two combined blocks. She came back in Stan State's three-set win over Menlo on Friday to record 20 kills and nine blocks while adding one block.
The junior outside hitter had a career high 23 kills in Stan State's four-set loss to Jessup. She also added 11 digs for her second double-double of the season to go with her one block. Saucedo finished with 17 kills, eight digs, and two combined blocks in the Warriors' three-set win over Dominican Saturday night.
Byrd recorded 17 total blocks for a 1.21 blocks per set average in Stan Sate's 3-1 weekend. She added 26 kills in 44 attempts for a .545 hitting percentage. The senior middle hitter started the weekend with five kills and six total blocks against UC Merced on Thursday evening. She came back in the Warriors' four-set win over Menlo with a career high 14 kills and four blocks.
The Stockton, Calif. native, had four kills and one block with one assist in Stan State's four-set loss to Jessup on Saturday. In Stan State's final match against Dominican, Byrd had three kills and six blocks to go with her two digs to key the Warriors' sweep of the Penguins.
Stan State returns to the court this weekend as the Warriors begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on the road. The Warriors will begin the weekend with a 5:00 p.m. match in Seaside, Calif., this Friday, September 20 at Cal State Monterey Bay. They will finish the weekend in Atherton, Calif., on the campus of Menlo College for a 5:00 p.m. match with Cal State East Bay this Saturday, September 21. The Warriors will return home Friday, September 27 for a 5:00 p.m. match with Sonoma State. All-Tournament Team
