Volleyball Hosts UC Merced, Travels to Chico State in Key CCAA Week
TURLOCK, Calif. — The Stanislaus State volleyball team plays two important conference matches this week, beginning at home Wednesday against UC Merced before hitting the road to face Chico State on Saturday. First serve for both matches is set for 5 p.m.
Warriors Update
The Warriors (7–8, 5–3 CCAA) continue to hold a winning record in conference play despite a tough four-set loss to Cal State LA last weekend. Stan State has relied on balance and depth across its rotation, led by Isabella Saucedo (2.61 kills per set, .217 hitting percentage) and Christallynn Tate (2.05 kps, .248).
Setter Shaelyn Pruiett averages nearly five assists per set, while libero Leah Mendoza anchors the back row with 4.44 digs per set. The Warriors remain one of the CCAA's best blocking units at 2.43 blocks per set, led by Irene London (1.31), Malia Tanksley (0.88), and Fallon Freeman (0.53).
Weekend Recap
The Warriors dropped both matches last weekend, falling in four sets at San Francisco State (21–25, 25–23, 17–25, 16–25) and at home to Cal State LA (19–25, 18–25, 25–22, 21–25). Over the two matches, Christallynn Tate led Stan State with 18 kills, followed by Isabella Saucedo with 14 and Teagan Irish with 10 while hitting .400. Shaelyn Pruiett averaged 3.67 assists per set and added a pair of service aces in each match.
Defensively, Leah Mendoza totaled 21 digs (2.63 per set), while Irene London, Teagan Irish, and Lauren Hamilton each contributed multiple blocks as Stan State averaged 2.13 blocks per set across the weekend.
Scouting Report: UC Merced
UC Merced (4–12 overall, 3–4 CCAA) makes the short trip to Turlock coming off a sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay last weekend. The Bobcats are led by outside hitter Sera Riley, who averages 2.53 kills per set, and setter Kyra Miller, who posts 4.74 assists and nearly half an ace per set.
Middle blockers Morgan Wilson (.389 hitting, 0.56 blocks/set) and Semiramis Tanasescu (.353, 0.58 blocks/set) anchor a front line that has helped the Bobcats hit .177 as a team while averaging 10.4 kills per set.
This will be the third all-time meeting between the Warriors and Bobcats. Stanislaus State leads the series 2–0, including a 3–0 win last season in Turlock behind Malia Tanksley's nine kills.
Scouting Report: Chico State
Chico State (5–10, 1–7 CCAA) snapped a seven-match skid with a sweep of Cal State San Marcos last Saturday. The Wildcats' offense runs through Maria Wahl (2.93 kills/set, .225 hitting), while Claire Nordeen averages 8.29 assists per set to set the pace offensively. Chico averages 11.9 kills and 15.7 digs per set overall.
This is the second meeting this season between the Warriors and Wildcats. Chico State leads the all-time series 21–15, but Stan State has won six of the last seven. The Warriors won 3–0 in Turlock on September 26 behind Isabella Saucedo's 14 kills and seven blocks each from Irene London and Malia Tanksley. Chico claimed last year's meeting in Chico in five sets.
NCAA Stats
Nationally, Stanislaus State ranks among the top blocking teams in NCAA Division II, sitting 15th in the country at 2.43 blocks per set. Individually, Irene London ranks 16th in the nation with 1.31 blocks per set.
CCAA Leaders
London stands second in the CCAA in blocks per set (1.31) and seventh in total blocks (51). Tanksley ranks 10th in total blocks (38) and eighth in blocks per set (0.88). Mendoza continues to lead the conference in digs, ranking first in both digs per set (4.44) and total digs (253).
Seeing Double
Five Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season. Shaelyn Pruiett and Isabella Saucedo lead the group with three apiece, while Reagan Wilkerson has also posted three. Kryslin James and Maggie Olson have each added one double-double to the team total.
Warriors to Host CCAA Volleyball Tournament
Stanislaus State will serve as the host site for the 2025 CCAA Volleyball Tournament, scheduled for November 20–22 inside Fitzpatrick Arena. The top six teams in the final conference standings will qualify for postseason play, with the tournament champion earning the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championship.
