Warriors Stay in the Nation’s Top 25 for the Second Week in a Row
NEW ORLEANS--- For the second week in a row, Stan State women's cross country team is ranked in the top 25 in the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll which was released today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Stan State is 23rd after being off since its second-place finish at Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational on October 4. Annie Wild paced the Warriors with her third-place time of 21:11.6 in the 6K race. Right behind Wild was Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva with her fifth-place time of 21:18. Rounding out the top five for the Warriors were Crystal Hernandez (tenth, 22:02), Tessa Vasquez (thirteenth, 22:07.6), and Noheli Ron (sixteenth, 22:32). Stan State had three other runners finish in the top twenty in Milca Osorio (seventeenth, 22:38.6), Sophia Mirelez (eighteenth, 22:39.7), and Dede Salcedo (twentieth, 22:48.1).
This was the second race this season that the Warriors finished second. In their first race on September 7 at the Seawolf Invite/CCAA Championship preview, the Stan State was second in the 5K race. Wild led the way for the Warriors with her fifth-place time of 18:45.41.
Stan State is off until Friday, October 11 when the Warrior men's and women's cross country teams travel to San Francisco to participate in the SF State Invitational at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadows. The women's race is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. followed by the men's race at 4:15 p.m. This will be their final race of the regular season until the CCAA Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif., on Friday, October 25.
