Men’s Soccer Picked Eighth in CCAA Coaches’ Preseason Poll

TURLOCK, Calif. – Stanislaus State men's soccer has been picked to finish eighth in the 2025 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Coaches' Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference office this week.
Led by third-year head coach John Powell, the Warriors are coming off their first winning season since 2015.

They finished the 2024 campaign with a 7-6-5 overall record and a 3-4-4 mark in conference play, narrowly missing out on a CCAA Tournament berth by just three points.

This fall, Stan State returns a strong veteran group, including 14 players from last season's squad. Among them are two All-CCAA honorees: midfielder Samuel Villanueva, who scored two goals in his junior campaign and has earned All-CCAA honors twice; and goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez, who posted a 1.19 goals-against average, a .744 save percentage, six shutouts, and 58 total saves across 17 starts in 2024.

Also returning are leading scorers Adrian Yepez and Kenneth Solares. Yepez scored three goals, including two game-winners, and added an assist. Solares, coming off a strong freshman season, tallied two goals and two assists, including one game-winner.

The Warriors open the 2025 season at home on Thursday, September 4, hosting Seattle Pacific at 7:30 p.m. They return to Warrior Stadium on Saturday, September 6, to face Western Washington at 7:00 p.m. The Vikings are coming off a second-place GNAC finish with a 10-5-3 record.

Conference play kicks off on Friday, October 3, when Stan State hosts Cal State East Bay at 4:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against Cal State LA on Sunday, October 5 at 11:30 a.m. The Warriors will celebrate Senior Day on October 19 at 2:00 p.m. against Cal State San Marcos, and close the regular season on Thursday, November 6 at 11:30 a.m. versus UC Merced.

The CCAA Men's Soccer Championships begin November 9 with first-round matches hosted by the higher seeds. The top two teams in the final regular-season standings earn byes into the semifinals, which will be held along with the championship on November 14 and 16 at Cardinale Stadium on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay.

The NCAA Division II Tournament opens November 21–23, with national semifinals and the championship set for December 11 and 13 at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.
