Warriors Continue Four-Match Road Trip with a Pair of Matches in Hawai’i
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State men's soccer team will continue its season beginning four-match road trip this Thursday and Saturday, September 12 and 14 with a pair of non-conference matches in the State of Hawai'i. The Warriors will face Chaminade this Thursday, September 12 at 12:00 p.m. (HT)/3:00 p.m. (PT) at Saint Louis Field on the campus of Chaminade University. They will finish out their four-match road trip under the lights this Saturday, September 14 against Hawai'i Pacific at 7:00 p.m. (HT)/10:00 p.m. (PT) at Waipio Stadium. Both matches will take place in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
THE WARRIORS: Stan State is 1-1 after starting its season in Lacey, Wash. The Warriors defeated Saint Martin's 4-1 this past Thursday. Four different players scored a goal for Stan State in Edgar Castaneda, Margo Carbajal, Sammy Villanueva, and Adrian Yepez. Recording assists for the Warriors were Alecxander Cuellar and Jose Ponce. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez saw action in all 180 minutes in goal for the Warriors. He posted a .636 saves percentage with a 2.00 goals against average and seven saves.
CHAMINADE: The Silverswords lost their home opener 2-0 on September 7 to Hawai'I Hilo. Last season, Chaminade went 0-12-3 overall and 0-8-2 in the PacWest. Kili Chappell saw action in 85 of the 90 minutes in Chaminade's match against Hilo with recording five saves and posting a 1.05 goals against average. Jonah Valmonte saw action in four minutes and giving up a goal.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with Chaminade 1-0. The Warriors defeated the Silverswords in 2017 behind Ryan Chaney's goal in the third minute in Hawai'i.
HAWAI'I PACIFIC: The Sharks 0-1 after losing 4-0 to the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on September 7 in their home opener. Kevin Harr was in goal for all 90 minutes and had five saves. HPU went 4-11-3 last season including
2-7-1 in the PacWest. Before facing the Warriors on Saturday, HPU will face travel to Hilo to face Hawai'i Hilo at 2:00 p.m. (HT) on Wednesday.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Sharks 2-0. They won last year's meeting in Turlock 3-2. Edgar Castaneda scored one of the Warriors' three goals while Tyler Tipton scored the other two. Leonardo Muniz had an assist as did Chase Koptieff. Robby Rosas had five saves in goal for the victors.
UP NEXT: The Warriors' home opener is set for 5:00 p.m. (PT) against Fresno Pacific on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
