THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS WOMEN'S SOCCER POST-SEASON HOPES STILL ALIVE


With just one match left in the regular season, Stan State women's soccer team is still alive for a berth in the six-team 2023 CCAA Women's Soccer Championships.  The Warriors went 1-0-1 this weekend to improve to 7-5-5 overall and 4-2-4 in the CCAA. They are tied for sixth place with Cal Poly Humboldt.  Stan State ends its regular season this Thursday, November 2 for a 2pm match at Chico State.
 
The Warriors started their week with a 2-2 draw with Cal State Monterey Bay.  Aliah Avilla scored a goal and assisted on a goal.  Shauna Johnston scored a goal with Daisy Martinez and Alexis Brewah each recording an assist.  On Senior Day, Stan State defeated Sf State 3-0 with Malia Allen recording three saves in the shutout.  Alisha Garcia, Marivic Lek-Miro, and Haylee Heffner each scored for the Warriors.  Avilla and Sunny Mancilla each had an assist and Brewah had two assists.  
 
TYLER TIPTON BECOMES WARRIORS' SINGLE SEASON GOALS SCORER LEADER IN D2ERA IN 1-1 WARRIOR WEEKEND
Sophomore forward Tyler Tipton scored three of the Warriors' six goals to key their 1-1 weekend. Tipton scored Stan State's goal in the Warriors' 3-1 loss to No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay.  Alecxander Cuellar assisted on the Warriors' goal.  On Senior Day, Stan State defeated SF State 5-2. Tipton scored two goals to become the Warriors' single goals scorer in the D2ERA of men's soccer with 14.  Cuellar, Edgar Castaneda, and Adam Mockridge scored Stan State's three other goals.  Alexis Ramirez had two assists with Kekoa Kiesling and Castaneda each recording assists for Stan State (4-10-3, 1-6-3 CCAA). 
 
CROSS COUNTRY AT REGIONALS
Both the Stan State men's and women's cross country teams will be in Monmouth, Ore., this Saturday, November when the Warriors will participate in the NCAA Division II West Regionals on the campus of Western Oregon University.  The women's 6K race will begin at 10am followed by the men's 10K race at 11:15am.  The Warriors last raced on October 21 at the CCAA Championships, Stan State women placed second and the men were third.  At last year's NCAA DII West Regionals, the women captured the regional team title and the men finished in 14th place.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL STARTS THEIR SEASON THIS WEEK
Stan State men's basketball team will begin their 2023-24 season this Wednesday, November 1 at 7pm in Reno, Nev., against the University of Nevada in an exhibition game.  Their final tune-up for the regular season will be on Monday, November 6 at 7pm in Moraga, Calif., against Saint Mary's College.  Stan State regular season opener is set for November 10 at 7pm in San Diego against Point Loma.  The Warriors' home opener is set for Friday, November 30 at 7:30pm against Cal State East Bay, which will also be their conference opener.
 
MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AND SEVENTH IN FINAL TOURNAMENTS OF THE FALL SEASON
Stan State men's golf team participated in two tournaments in the State of Hawai'i this week to finish their fall season.  The Warriors started the week with a seventh place at the Southwest Airlines/HPU Shark Shootout with a 15-over par 879.  Nate Jetton tied for 12th with a one-under par 215 to lead the way for Stan State. On Friday-Saturday, the Warriors finished in sixth place at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate with a two-round score of three-over par 579.  Jetton paced the Warriors with a two-under par 142 which tied him for tenth place.
 
GABBY RAWSON BECOMES SIXTH WARRIOR TO RECORD 1,000 DIGS IN STAN STATE'S 0-2 WEEKEND
Gabby Rawson had 32 digs in the Warriors' two matches at home this week to surpass the 1,000 digs mark.  She now has 1,010 in her career and sixth on Stan State all-time career digs list.  Friday, Stan State lost in three sets (18-25, 22-25, 21-25) to Cal State San Marcos.  Ellison Weaver had 13 kills and 12 digs for the Warriors (8-15, 3-11 CCAA). Stan State lost in three sets (19-25, 20-25, 23-25) to No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona.  Alex Byrd had three total blocks and Rawson added 14 digs for the hosts.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO BEGIN SEASON, NOVEMBER 9
Stan State women's basketball team will begin their 2023-24 season with an exhibition game on November 9 at the University of San Francisco at 4pm. The Warriors will begin their regular season with two games at the Pioneer Conference Challenge in Hayward, Calif., November 10-11.  They will face Northwest Nazarene on Fri., Nov. 10 at 7:30pm and Central Washington on Sat., Nov. 11 at 1pm against Central Washington.  The following weekend, Nov. 17-18, Stan State will host the Warrior Classic.  The Warriors will host Academy of Art at 7pm on Nov. 17 and Simon Fraser at 3pm on Nov. 18.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS COMPETED AT SMC FALL INVITE
Stan State women's tennis team concluded its fall season in Moraga, Calif., at the SMC Fall Invite on the campus of Saint Mary's College.  The Warriors competed in singles and doubles matches against players from UC Davis, Saint Mary's College, Pacific, Sacramento State, Cal-Berkeley, and San Jose State.  For the complete release on the SMC Fall Invite, click here.
 
CRAB FEED SET FOR JANUARY 27
The Annual Warrior Athletics Crab Feed is set for January 27, 2024, at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena on the campus of Stanislaus State University.  The Crab Feed benefits the Warrior Athletic Scholarship Fund.  More details can be found at www.warriorathletics.com/crabfeed.

STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE SOCCER PLAYERS ALEXIS BREWAH AND TYLER TIPTON
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are a pair of soccer players in Alexis Brewah and Tyler Tipton.
 
Alexis Brewah assisted on three on three of the Warriors' five goals in their 1-0-1 weekend at home.  She started with an assist on Stan State's first goal in their 2-2 draw with CSUMB on Friday.  On Senior Day, Brewah assisted on two of the Warriors' three goals in their 3-0- win over SF State.  Brewah and her Warrior teammates are tied for the sixth and final spot for the CCAA post season with one match left in the regular season.
 
Tipton scored three goals to become the Warriors' single season goals scorer in the D2ERA of Stan State men's soccer.  He started off the weekend scoring Stan State's goal in their 3-1 loss to No. 21 CSUMB on Friday.  Tipton finished with a brace in the Warriors' 5-2 Senior Day victory over SF State on Sunday.  For the season, he has a CCAA and team leading 14 goals with 28 points.
