    Performer/Speaker/Lecturer Name & Affiliation:: Juan Sanchez, Malinalli, George Gonzalez, will be talking about the Tonatiuh Yaotl Sun Warrior Circulo de Hombres which is a men led talking circle that focuses on emotional and cultural support; Jose Martinez who will focus on Mexica Dansa Kalpulli which is an indigenous dance style; Sylvia from Medicine for My Sisters, and Cara from California Consortium for Urban Indian Health (CCUIH) who will lead a women's drum circle; and Elias Funez an environmentalist to talk about the Save Del Porto Canyon project

    The objective of this workshop is to promote self-empowerment through cultural education, foster a sense of community and shared identity, and revitalize traditional practices and integrate them into modern contexts.

    These objectives will be completed by the guests of the workshop. They are involved in orgs and projects that offer traditional and cultural practices, and education. The guests will discuss these groups and resources available, which consist of the following:


    • Circulo de Hombres which is a men circle that focuses on emotional and cultural support.
    • Mexica Dansa Kalpulli
    • Woman’s Drum Circle
    • Save Del Porto Canyon Project

    Structure



    1. Opening Circle/ Four Directions Juan Sanchez/ George Gonzalez/ Malinalli/ Tonatiuh Yaotl (Sun Warrior Men’s Circle) (1 Hour)



    Traditional welcome and land acknowledgment.



    Sharing the purpose of the workshop and introductions.



    2. Storytelling and Wisdom Sharing/ Del Puerto Canyon Importance Elias Funez/allies of Del Puerto Canyon (D.P.C) (1 hour)



    Invite an elder or knowledge keeper to share traditional stories, history, and lessons.



    Discuss how these teachings are relevant today.



    3. Medicine For my sister’s Silva/Cara is with CCUIH (1 hour)



    Information on crafting, traditional cooking, or storytelling techniques



    Outcome: encourage participation and collaboration to create a tangible connection to the culture.

    Audience: Open to all community members, and students, focusing on inclusivity.

    Empowered individuals who can act as change-makers in their communities such as the Northern Central California San Joaquin Valley/Northern Yokuts Territory.



     

    Increased appreciation and respect for Natives to the American’s traditions throughout Turtle Island/ Western Hemisphere.
