THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
STAN STATE TO HOST 21ST ANNUAL TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS, PRESENTED BY THE CITY OF TURLOCK
Stan State Warriors' softball team will host the 21st Annual Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock at Warrior Field and the Pedretti Sports Complex. The tournament will start this Thursday, March 21 with a pair of games at Warrior Field at 4pm and 6:30pm. This year's tournament will conclude this Sunday, March 24 with games at Warrior Field and the Pedretti Sports Complex at 9:30am and noon. Stan State will face Azusa Pacific (Fri., March 22 at 11:30am), Central Washington (Fri., March 22 at 4:30pm), Hawai'i Hilo (Sat., March 23 at 4:30pm), and Dominican (Sun., March 24 at noon). DOCE AMONGST THE TOP RUNNERS IN THE NATION
Stan State track and field student-athlete Ero Doce has provisionally qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 1500-meter and 5,000-meter run events. He is first in the 5,000-meter run with his school record time of 14:08.98 that he set on March 1 at the Kim Duyst Invitational. Doce is 64th in the nation in the 1500-meter run with his time of 3:47.94 that he ran at the Sunbird Invitational on February 17.
FERREIRA LEADS THE WAY FOR STAN STATE IN FOUR-GAME SERIES AT CSUSB
In the Warriors' abbreviated three-game series at Cal State San Bernardino this weekend, Mikaela Ferreira led the way with her .636 batting average, 1.364 slugging percentage, and .667 on-base percentage. She hit two home runs and drove in four runs. Lauryn Serda had two home runs and drove in four runs while batting .455. Sarah Warden and Katie Thornsberrry each hit .400 in the three games for Stan State (7-15, 6-9 CCAA). Sasha Martello picked up her fourth win of the season in Saturday's 6-3 game one victory.
JETTON TIES FOR 10TH AT PIONEER SHOOTOUT WHILE WARRIORS FINISH TIED FOR SIXTH
Nate Jetton finished in a three-way tie for tenth place with a five-under par 211 to lead the way for the Warriors. Stan State shot a two-over par 866 which tied for sixth place with Western Washington. Jack Peters tied for 17th place with his two-under par 214 followed by Chris Chomyn (tied 25th, 217 (+1)). Jarred Hernandez finished tied for 65th and Rey Rosas tied for 82nd place. The Warriors will host the 49th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, March 25-26 at Turlock Golf & Country Club. At the conclusion of the tournament, Stan State will recognize its three seniors in Chris Chomyn, Jarred Hernandez, and Nate Jetton.
BASEBALL BATTLES AT NO. 20 CSUMB
Stan State battled with the No. 20 Cal State Monterey Bay Otters this weekend in Seaside but lost 11-5, 12-1, 10-6, and 11-9. The Warriors are now 8-14-1 overall and 4-10 in the CCAA. Three Warriors hit .400 or higher in Jackson Brooks (.500), Tyler Van Dyk (.455), and Chris Catalano (.400). Brooks dorve in four runs while Catalano scored a team high five runs. JD Madrigal hit two home runs and Luke Davies had a solo home run. Catalano had three doubles while Van Dyk and Alex Solis each had two doubles. Stan State was a perfect six-for-six in stolen base attempts. Robert Valdivia went two-for-two and four Warriors had one stolen base apiece in Van Dyk, Catalano, Solis, and Jacob Baker. Three pitchers pitched at least two innings and had a 0.00 earned run average in Caleb Bertoncini, Kody Cardoza, and Quinn Oliver.
TRACK AND FIELD PARTICIPATED AT THE HORNET INViTE
Eight members of the Stan State men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Hornet Invite this weekend in Sacramento. Leading the way for the Warriors was Jason Lindsay (seventh, hammer; tenth, discus), Lamont Lane (ninth, hammer), and Cole Bailey (tenth, javelin; 19th, shot put). Also competing at the Hornet were: Hailey Hunter (shot put, 24th, hammer, 26th), Alfred Nunes (17th, javelin; 23rd, 110 hurdles), Luke McMahon (13th, hammer), Devin Hernandez (14th, shot put; 15th, hammer), and Caitlyn Bell (17th, javelin).
WOMEN'S TENNIS LED BY ANNABELLE MULICK IN DUAL AGAINST DOMINICAN
Stan State's Annabelle Mulick was victorious by a 6-4, 6-1 decision at number three singles in the Warriors' dual against Dominican this Saturday. The Warriors lost to the Penguins 6-1 and will return to the court on the road at Menlo (Thurs., March 21, noon) and versus Cal State Los Angeles (Saturday, March 24, 4pm, Fresno).

STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE MIKAELA FERREIRA
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are softball player Mikaela Ferreira and men's golfer Nate Jetton.
Ferreira had seven hits including two doubles and a solo home run in the Warriors' three-games at CSUSB this weekend. She drove in four runs and scored three times including hitting a solo home run in the Warriors' 6-3 win over the Coyotes. The 2023 CCAA Newcomer of the Year had a .667 on-base and 1.364 slugging percentages. She also had four putouts and 12 assists with no errors at short.
Jetton led the Warriors to a sixth-place finish at the three-round Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Alameda. He shot a five-under par 211 (67-70-74) to finish in a three-way tie for tenth place at the Shootout. The 2023 CCAA Newcomer of the Year led Stan State to its sixth place finish as the Warriors shot a two-over par 866.
