Cross Country to Host Kim Duyst Twilight This Saturday
The Stanislaus State men's and women's cross country teams will officially kick off the 2025 season this Saturday, September 13, when they host the annual Kim Duyst Twilight at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, Calif.
The meet will feature 13 races, beginning at 5:15 p.m. with the 2K Freshman/Sophomore Girls' race, and concluding at 10:00 p.m. with the 2K Girls' Invitational. The men's collegiate 8K will start at 8:30 p.m., followed by the women's collegiate 6K at 9:00 p.m. Live results will be provided by Red Cap Timing (www.redcaptiming.com).
Men's Soccer Opens Season 2-0
The Stan State men's soccer team began the 2025 campaign with back-to-back victories, defeating Seattle Pacific, 2-1, and Western Washington, 4-1, at home.
Goal scorers for the Warriors included Sebastian Carbajal, Alexis Cervantes, Emmanuel Duran (2), Gerardo Flores, and Kenneth Solares. Assists came from Cervantes, Flores, Angel Ruiz Hernandez, and Samuel Villanueva, who tallied three in the win over WWU.
Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez recorded a 1.00 goals against average, with five saves and a .714 save percentage across the two matches.
Women's Soccer Splits Home Opener Weekend
The Warrior women's soccer team opened its season with a pair of home matches, earning a 1-0 shutout victory over Saint Martin's before falling 2-1 to Simon Fraser.
Zara Mujica posted a clean sheet in the opener with three saves. Stan State outshot Saint Martin's 21-4. In the match against Simon Fraser, the Warriors outshot the Red Leafs 18-8, but fell short despite goals from Grace Fabionar and Haylee Sousa.
Aliah Avila recorded two assists on the weekend, with Jocelin Roa and Kellyann Rodriguez each adding one. Mujica finished the weekend with a 1.00 goals against average and .778 save percentage.
Volleyball Continues Road Stretch at Biola/Vanguard Kickoff Classic
Stan State volleyball opened the 2025 season with three hard-fought losses at the Sunbird Classic in Fresno, falling to Fresno Pacific (3-2), Westmont (3-1), and Menlo College (3-0).
Isabella Saucedo led the team with 29 kills, followed by Maggie Olson (25) and Christallynn Tate (20). Shaelynn Pruiett and Reagan Wilkerson dished out 55 and 38 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Leah Mendoza tallied 78 digs, including 40 against Fresno Pacific, tying the program's single-match record. Lauren Hamilton led at the net with 17 total blocks.
The Warriors now turn their attention to the Biola/Vanguard Kickoff Classic, where they will compete in four matches over three days.
Women's Cross Country Ranked 17th Nationally, First in West Region
In the 2025 NCAA Division II preseason poll released by the USTFCCCA, the Stanislaus State women's cross country team earned a No. 17 national ranking and is ranked first in the West Region.
In the CCAA preseason coaches' poll, the Warriors were picked to finish second. Five Warriors were named to the CCAA Watchlist:
- Gianna Bomarito – 2023 CCAA Runner of the Year, All-American (19th at Nationals)
- Crystal Hernandez, Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva, Annie Wild – All-CCAA honorees in 2024
- Makenzie Kordic – 2024 All-CCAA for Sonoma State
Men's Cross Country Ranked Sixth in Region
The Warrior men's cross country team enters the 2025 season ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II West Region by the USTFCCCA, and third in the CCAA preseason coaches' poll.
Tanner Gerhart (2024 CCAA Newcomer of the Year), Jackson Oliveira (2024 CCAA Freshman of
the Year), and Mason Oliveira (All-CCAA) were all named to the CCAA Watchlist.

Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week: Avila and VillanuevaAliah Avila, a midfielder on the women's soccer team, earned this week's honor after assisting on both Warrior goals over the weekend. The 2024 CCAA Midfielder of the Year set up the game-winner in the 55th minute against Saint Martin's and added another assist in the 59th minute against Simon Fraser.
Samuel Villanueva, a captain on the men's soccer team, played a crucial role in the Warriors' 4-1 win over Western Washington, registering three assists and anchoring a defense that held the opposition to just seven total shots, four on goal.
