Stan State’s Gabby Rawson Named CCAA Defensive Player of the Week
TURLOCK, Calif.--- For the sixth time in her career and first time this season, Stan State's Gabby Rawson was named this week's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office this morning. Rawson led the Warriors to a 2-0 start in the CCAA with back-to-back four-set road victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay.
The two-time All-CCAA honoree started the week with 19 digs and seven assists in the Warriors' victory at Cal State Monterey Bay. Rawson added two service aces. The senior libero finished the week with a double-double (her first of the season and second of her career) in Stan State's four-set win at Cal State East Bay on Saturday evening. She had a season high 12 assists to go with her 16 digs to lead the Warriors to their third straight victory. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native added three service aces to give her five for the weekend.
For the season, Rawson has recorded 136 digs for a 3.68 digs per set average to go with her 54 assists (1.46 assists per set average). She is third on the Warriors' career top ten list with 1261 digs.
Stan State is off to its best start since joining the NCAA Division II in 1989. The Warriors are 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA heading into their four-match home stand. They will host Sonoma State (Friday, September 27) and Cal Poly Humboldt (Saturday, September 28) in 5:00 p.m. starting matches at The Fitzpatrick Arena. Stan State will conclude its home stand next week against San Francisco State (October 4) and No. 21 Cal State San Bernardino (October 5). Both matches are scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
