TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State's volleyball team makes their return to the Fitzpatrick Arena to begin a four-game homestand. This week, the Warriors host Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-3) on September 18 and Cal State San Marcos (1-7) on September 20.
Last Week at the Biola/Vanguard Kickoff
Stan State traveled to Costa Mesa and La Mirada, Calif. to take part in the Biola/Vanguard Kickoff Tournament hosted by Biola University and Vanguard University. The Warriors split their four matches to finish the tournament 2-2, including a sweep of Azusa Pacific and a five-set win versus Texas Permian Basin. Biola proved to be a strong opponent, defeating the Warriors 3-0, though Stan State's defense still looked strong with 36 digs and three blocks. The Warriors shined versus Azusa Pacific on both ends of the ball with 43 kills and eight service aces while also putting up nine blocks and 56 digs. Vanguard bested Stan State 3-0, though the Warriors outpaced the Lions in digs with 57. The Warriors put up 14 blocks to hold back Texas Permian Basin and claim their second win in the tournament.
Stan State Recap
The Warriors enter this week with a 2-5 overall record. Offensively, Isabella Saucedo leads the team with 57 kills, putting her at 2.19 kills per set. Shaelyn Pruiett keeps the offense running with 93 assists, while Leah Mendoza anchors the defense with 148 digs. Saucedo has seven service aces, with Victoria Plumb and Irene London following close behind with six each. Christallynn Tate leads the team in blocks with 18, followed by Malia Tanksley and Lauren Hamilton with 17. Hamilton has the most solo blocks on the team with nine.
Seeing Double
Kryslin James joins the double-double club with 18 assists and 14 digs versus Vanguard University last week, marking four members of Stan State that have recorded double-doubles this season. Shaelyn Pruiett has recorded two double-doubles, while Isabella Saucedo and Maggie Olson have each earned a double-double each.
CCAA/NCAA Rankings
Stan State is ranked in the top three in the CCAA in several categories. The Warriors rank third in blocks per set (2.46) and team total blocks (64); second in opponent hitting percentage (.147), team attacks per set (36.92), and team digs (463); and first in digs per set (17.81). Leah Mendoza ranks first in the conference with 5.69 digs per set and 148 total digs. In NCAA Division II rankings, Stan State is ranked 25th in digs per set with 17.81 and 27th in blocks per set with 2.46. Mendoza's total digs are 18th in Division II while her digs per set rank her 11th.
Toros Preview
Cal State Dominguez Hills holds a 3-3 overall record. Bailey Fuches leads the Toros offense with 63 kills while Jaiden Mojica is the primary setter with 152 assists. Mojica also has eight service aces so far this season. On defense, Camryn Perdue defends the net with nine blocks as libero Nina Flores defends the backline with 95 digs. Dating back to 1984, Stan State leads the all-time series versus Cal State Dominguez Hills 28-27, claiming eight of the last ten matches. The Warriors swept the Toros 3-0 in their last meeting on October 12, 2024.
Cougars Preview
Cal State San Marcos is currently 1-7 overall and will face San Francisco State, who is receiving votes for national top 25 contention, before visiting Stan State. Addison Kranz is the driving force offensively for the Cougars, tallying 83 kills. Izabella Santa Cruz has recorded 153 assists while Blayne Seligmiller has the most service aces with nine. Annika Blas-Cedeno leads the team in digs with 102 to aid the defense while Seligmiller is the team leader in blocks with 17. Cal State San Marcos leads Stan State in the all-time series 9-5, though the Warriors claimed the win in their last meeting 3-2.
