THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
 
EIGHT FIRST PLACE FINISHERS FOR WARRIORS AT THE SUNBIRD INVITATIONAL 
Both Stan State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams started their spring season on high note.  The Warriors captured eight events led by Ero Doce winning the 800, 1500, and 3000-meter runs.  Najwa Chouati captured the 1500- and 3000-meter runs.  Annie Wild won the 800-meter run while Reyna Dismukes won the triple jump and Alfred Nunes the pole vault.  All totaled, Stan State recorded over forty top ten finishes.  Doce provisionally qualified for outdoor nationals in the 1500-meter run.  
 
BASEBALL SPLITS WEKEEND SERIES WITH CWU
The Warriors went 2-2 against Central Washington this weekend in a four-game non-conference series at Warrior Field.  They started with a 6-5 game one victory on Friday as Kody Cardoza (1-0) picked up the win and Austin Balentine the save.  Flavio Perez was two-for-four with four runs batted in and a run scored.  Perez along with Danny Murphy and Kyle Rachels each hit home runs.  Stan State won the night cap on Friday 4-3.  Rachels was two-for-three with a run batted in and two runs scored.  Will Crookham (2-1) and Balentine recorded his second save of the day.  They lost game three, 12-3, on Saturday as Jackson Brooks had a pitch-hit two-run double.  CWU took the series finale 7-5 on Sunday.  Ryan Leonesio and Jacob Baker each hit home runs, and Tyler Van Dyk had a two-run single for the 4-4-1 Warriors.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL FINISHES WEEKEND WITH 73-69 VICTORY OVER NO. 25 CHICO STATE
Stan State (7-18, 4-15 CCAA) started Homecoming week with a 72-65 loss to Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday.  Dontrell Hewlett had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. John Wade III added 12 points and Cam Walker chipped in 11 points. Saturday, Stan State rallied to defeated No. 25 Chico State 37-69.  Hewlett had 15 while Jeremiah Jones added 13 points, Isaiah Jones chipped in 12 points, and Mahda Falllay added 10 points.
 
MEN'S GOLF FINISHES IN SIXTH AT CSUSM FUJIKURA 
Chris Chomyn, who was the CCAA co-men's golfer of the week, led the Warriors to a sixth-place finish at the 12-team CSUSM Fujikura. Chomyn won a one-round playoff hole to capture medalist honors.  He shot a seven-under par 209.  Nate Jetton finished in fourth place with a four-under par 212.  Jack Peters finished with a ten-over par 226 (tied 43^rd), Jarred Hernandez with a 16-over par 232 (56^th place), and Ray Rosas with a 19-over par 235 (60^th place).   
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ONE-GAME OUT OF RECEIVING A POST-SEASON BERTH
With three games left in the regular season, Stan State (14-15, 9-10 CCAA) is out game out of sixth place in the CCAA regular season standings.  The top six teams in the CCAA on February 29 will receive a berth to the CCAA Basketball Championships.  The Warriors started the week with a 71-47 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt.  Mya Blake scored 17 points while Talia Maxwell chipped in 14 points and Cookie Marques added 11 points.  Stan State finished the week with an 86-63 loss to Chico State.  Blake and Marques each had 14 points and Taylor Pilot chipped in 12 points.  Blake has scored over 1,000 points in her career at Stan State and SF State.
 
SOFTBALL FINISHES WEEKEND GOING 1-3 AGAINST NO. 5 CSUSM
Stan State went 1-3 against No. 5 Cal State San Marcos this weekend at home.  The Warriors (1-8, 1-3 CCAA) lost 2-1 and 8-0 on Thursday afternoon while splitting the doubleheader 6-5 and 8-0 (five innings). Lauryn Serda singled home Sasha Martello in the bottom of the seventh in Stan State's victory.  Mikaela Ferreira was three-for-four, driving in two runs and scoring twice.  Karli DalBianco was two-for-three with three runs batted in for the Warriors. Martello picked up the win for the Warriors.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS PACWEST MATCH TO ACADEMY OF ART
Stan State lost 7-0 to Academy of Art in the Bay Area on Friday.  Emma Yu took her opponent to three sets at number five singles (6-0, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).  The Warriors will host Hawai'i-Hilo on Sunday, Feb. 25 at noon.

STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE CHRIS CHOMYN, NAJWA CHOUATI, AND ERO DOCE
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are men's golfer Chris Chomyn and pair of track and field student-athletes in Najwa Chouati and Ero Doce.  
 
Chomyn shot a seven-under par 209 at the par-72 Shadowbridge Golf Club to capture to tie for first place.  He won a one-hole playoff hole to capture medalist honors.  The CCAA co-men's golfer of the week started the invitational with a tournament low 64 and one-under par 71 on Monday.  In the final round, Chomyn shot a two-over par 74 to finish with his 209.
 
Chouati captured first in the 1500 (4:38.37) and 3000 (10:32.68) while she was second in the 800-meter run (2:16.14) at the Sunbird to begin the outdoor season for the Warriors.  
 
Running in his first meet as a Warrior, the senior transfer captured first placed in the 800, 1500, and 3000-meter run at the Sunbird Invitational.  He prov. qualified for nationals in the 1500 (3:47.94).  He won the 800 with a time of 1:51.80 and 3K with a time of 8:22.11.  Doce is third in the 1500 and 7th at Stan State in the 800.
