Stan State Concludes Four-Game Homestand Versus Chico State and Cal Poly Humboldt
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State's volleyball team continues its homestand with two matches this week. The Warriors host Chico State (4-5, 0-2 CCAA) on September 26 and Cal Poly Humboldt (0-10, 0-2 CCAA) on September 27. Both matches have a scheduled first serve of 5:00 p.m. at The FItzpatrick Arena.
Last Week Versus CSUDH & CSUSM
Stan State hosted Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State San Marcos last week, earning a win versus both opponents. The Warriors took down the Toros 3-1, with 14 blocks to keep the Toros' offense from gaining traction. Isabella Saucedo recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, aiding the offense and defense, while Irene London combined for seven of the 14 blocks. Two days later, the Warriors swept the Cougars 3-0 as Shaelyn Pruiett connected well with the offense to notch 27 assists. Six different Warriors combined for eight service aces to aid the team in the win.
Stan State Recap
The Warriors enter this week with 4-5 overall and 2-0 in CCAA play. Offensively, Isabella Saucedo leads the team with 77 kills, putting her at 2.33 kills per set. Shaelyn Pruiett keeps the offense running with 139 assists, while Leah Mendoza anchors the defense with 173 digs. Three Warriors have a team-leading nine service aces in Saucedo, Victoria Plumb, and Irene London. Christallynn Tate leads the team in blocks with 27, followed by London with 25. Lauren Hamilton has the most solo blocks on the team with nine.
Seeing Double
Isabella Saucedo put up a double-double versus Cal State Dominguez Hills with 11 kills and 11 digs. Four Warriors have double-doubles this season with Shaelyn Pruiett and Isabella Saucedo recording two apiece, while Kryslin James and Maggie Olson have each earned a double-double.
CCAA/NCAA Rankings
Stan State is ranked in the top three in the CCAA in several categories. The Warriors rank third in team digs (560); second in blocks per set (2.58) and team total blocks (85); and first in opponent hitting percentage (.142), digs per set (16.97) and attacks per set (36.48).
In NCAA Division II rankings, Stan State is ranked 38th in digs per set with 16.97 and 10th in blocks per set with 2.58. Mendoza's total digs are 48th in Division II while her digs per set (5.24) rank her 18th.
Wildcats Preview
Chico State (4-5, 0-2 CCAA) is coming off losses from strong CCAA opponents in Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles. Maria Wahl is the primary offensive force for the Wildcats with 101 kills while Claire Nordeen sets up the play with 297 assists. Nordeen and Gwyneth Wentzel are tied for the team lead in service aces with 10. Wyievee Binda defends the net with 21 blocks, including a team-leading seven solo blocks, as Jessie Camarillo anchors the back row with 130 digs. Chico State leads the all-time series versus Stan State 21-14 with the two teams splitting their two meetings last season.
Lumberjacks Preview
Cal Poly Humboldt is currently 0-10 overall and 0-2 in CCAA play and will face UC Merced before traveling to the Fitz. Addison Bookstaber leads the team in kills with 55 while Brille Wilson has a team-leading 139 assists. Claire Crawford has earned 10 service aces to lead the Lumberjacks. On defense, Rahni Greene defends the net with 23 blocks, including nine solo, while Sophia Spoja is the team leader in digs with 108. In the all-time series between the Lumberjacks and the Warriors, dating back to 1977, the Lumberjacks have the upper hand 51-26. The Warriors have won six of the last ten, though they split two matches last season.
