No. 2 Warriors Host Chico on “Break the Record” Night, Visit CSUMB Sunday
TURLOCK, Calif.---The No. 2 Stanislaus State men's soccer team, riding a 12-match unbeaten streak, returns home to host Chico State this Friday, Oct. 24, at 4:30 p.m. on "Break the Record" Night at Warrior Stadium before heading to Cal State Monterey Bay for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 26, in Seaside.
Weekend Recap
The Warriors improved to 11-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the CCAA after another dominant weekend, earning a 3-0 win at Cal Poly Humboldt and a 1-0 home shutout of Cal State San Marcos. Sebastian Carbajal led the attack with two goals, while Gerardo Flores and Kenneth Solares each added one. Adrian Yepez, Samuel Villanueva, Christian Brenes, Hugo Canedo, and Alexis Cervantes each recorded assists on the weekend, continuing Stan State's balanced offensive play. Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez posted back-to-back clean sheets with nine total saves, improving his record to 11-0-1 with a 0.59 goals-against average and a .857 save percentage.
The Warriors have now outscored opponents 27-7 this season and have recorded seven shutouts, thanks to the steady defensive unit of Ruiz-Hernandez, Ian Reis, Federico Barbieri, Christian Brenes, David Lozano, and Ryan Rosas.
Warriors Update
Gerardo Flores leads the team with seven goals and 17 points, followed by Emmanuel Duran with six goals and Sebastian Carbajal with five. Samuel Villanueva (eight assists) and Adrian Yepez (six assists) continue to direct the attack from midfield. Stan State averages 2.25 goals per match while allowing just 0.58, ranking among the NCAA leaders in shutouts, winning percentage (.958), and goals-against average.
Defensively, the Warriors have been outstanding all season, recording seven shutouts while limiting opponents to only seven goals in 12 matches. Led by goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez, who owns a 0.59 goals-against average and .857 save percentage, Stan State's back line of Reis, Barbieri, Brenes, Lozano, and Rosas has been one of the most consistent and disciplined units in Division II.
NCAA Team Leaders
As a team, the Warriors rank among the top programs in the nation statistically. Stanislaus State stands seventh in assists per game, sixth in goal differential, 11th in points per game, fifth in both save percentage and shutout percentage, seventh in goals-against average, sixth in total assists, 13th in total points, and first in win/loss percentage. The Warriors are also one of only nine unbeaten teams remaining in NCAA Division II.

NCAA Individual Leaders
Individually, Samuel Villanueva ranks third in the nation in assists per game and fourth in total assists, while Adrian Yepez ranks 16th in assists per game and 14th in total assists. Gerardo Flores stands fifth nationally in game-winning goals, and Angel Ruiz-Hernandez ranks 10th in goals-against average, ninth in save percentage, and sixth in shutouts among Division II goalkeepers.
CCAA Leaders
Within the CCAA, Gerardo Flores leads the conference in game-winning goals and is tied for second in both total points and goals. Emmanuel Duran ranks fifth in goals and tied for sixth in points. Samuel Villanueva continues to pace the league in assists and stands ninth in points, while Adrian Yepez is tied for second in assists. Kenneth Solares and Sebastian Carbajal are tied for fourth in game-winning goals.
In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez leads the CCAA in goals-against average, save percentage, and is tied for first in shutouts while ranking fourth in total saves.
Warrior Record Book
In the Stan State record book, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has moved into the top 10 in several career categories—he now ranks fourth with 11 career shutouts, seventh with 100 career saves, and third with 17 career wins. Samuel Villanueva stands second all-time with 12 career assists.
In single-season marks, Gerardo Flores is tied for seventh with seven goals, Villanueva is tied for second with eight assists, and Adrian Yepez is tied for fourth with six assists. Flores is also tied for eighth with 17 points, while Ruiz-Hernandez is tied for fifth with six shutouts this season.
Scouting Chico State
Chico State enters the weekend 3-4-4 overall and 1-1-3 in CCAA play. The Wildcats have been competitive all year, with four draws and seven one-goal matches. Dane Peterson (four goals, one assist) leads the Chico attack, with Michael Gray adding three goals. Goalkeeper Weston Joyner owns a 1.28 goals-against average and a .692 save percentage. The Wildcats average 1.18 goals per game but have been held to one goal or fewer in nine of 11 matches.
Series History: Chico State leads the all-time series 18-4-3. The Warriors are 0-9-1 in the last 10 meetings with the Wildcats, with their last win coming in 2014—a 1-0 victory in Turlock.
Scouting Cal State Monterey Bay
Cal State Monterey Bay (3-6-2, 0-4-2 CCAA) has shown offensive firepower, scoring 19 goals in 11 matches but conceding 24. Ramiro Corrales Jr. (four goals, five assists) and Eric Vazquez-Acosta (four goals) lead the Otter offense. CSUMB averages 14 shots per match but allows 2.18 goals per game. Goalkeeper Jerry Godfryd has been steady with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .690 save percentage.
Series History: Stanislaus State leads the all-time series 17-11-6 against the Otters. The Warriors' last win came in 2021, a 3-1 victory in Turlock.
CCAA Soccer Championship Tournament
The six-team CCAA Soccer Championship Tournament begins with first-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the site of the higher seeds. The semifinals and finals will be played at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 14–15. The top two seeds receive a first-round bye, and the tournament champion earns the CCAA's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. The Warriors are currently tied for first place in the CCAA standings with Cal State Dominguez Hills, both holding 5-0-1 conference records entering this weekend's play.
Break the Record Night
Friday's home match will feature the "Break the Record" promotion, encouraging fans to pack Warrior Stadium and help set a new single-match attendance record. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the 4:30 p.m. kickoff against rival Chico State.
