Women’s Soccer Enters CCAA Season, 3-2-2

CHICO, Calif.---  Playing in their non-conference match of the regular season, the Stan State Warriors fell 2-1 on the road to the Chico State Wildcats this afternoon at University Soccer Stadium in Chico, Calif.  Chico State scored two early goals in the first half to key its victory.  On her first touch of the season, Jocelyn Figueroa scored her first goal as a Warrior for the guests' goal in the second half. 

FIRST HALF:  Chico State (3-1-3) took an 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Avery Pieri scored off a cross from Madison Schuler.  Stan State had a chance to tie the match just thirty-two seconds later when Sabrina Cabrera's shot went high over the goal.  The hosts doubled their lead on an unassisted goal by Camryn Toole in the eleventh minute.  It looked like the Warriors were going to cut into the Wildcat lead, when Kaley Miller's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Chico State's Emma Hofmann in the 17th minute.  The Warriors had another chance for a goal sail wide to the left of the goal off the foot of Kellyann Rodriguez.  Stan State's Natalia Ochoa made two saves late in the half to keep the score, Chico State 2-0 entering the half.

SECOND HALF: Just one minute into the half, Sabrina Cabrera saw her attempt to cut into the Wildcat lead by the hosts' keeper.  In the 47th minute, Stan State cut into the Wildcat lead, 2-1, on a goal by Jocelyn Figueroa.  She another chance for a goal in the 60th minute when it went over the goal.  With ten minutes left in regulation, Kayla Perez looked like she was going to tie the match at 2-2 for Stan State but Hoffman made another save for the hosts.  Cabrera had another shot on goal attempt be stopped with six minutes left on the clock.  Stan State's final shot attempt came off the foot of Jocelin Roa and it went right of the goal as Chico State took the 2-1 non-conference victory.

FIRST TOUCH AND GOAL:  On her first touch of the ball as a Warrior, Jocelyn Figueroa scored her first collegiate goal in the 47th minute of the match. 

14-13:  Stan State held a 14-13 advantage in shot attempts including 9-8 in the second half.  Chico State held and 8-5 advantage in shot on goal attempts. Of Stan State's 14 shot attempts, six came from Sabrina Cabrera and two each from Kellyann Rodriguez and Jocelyn Figueroa.

UP NEXT:  The Warriors will begin their CCAA schedule with two home matches at Warrior Stadium, October 4 and 6.  Stan State will host Cal State Dominguez Hills this Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. The Warriors will finish the home stand with a 2:00 p.m. starting match this Sunday, October 6 against Cal State Los Angeles.
