Warrior Duo of Chouati and Dishion Looking to Earn All-American Honors This Thursday
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State Warrior women's track and field student-athletes Najwa Chouati and Kaela Dishion will be looking to become the 54th and 55th All-American in program history. The Warrior duo will be competing in the 10,000-meter run at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday, May 23 at 8:50pm (CT) at the Francis G. Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.
TIMES: Dishion qualified for the 10,000-meter run with her time of 34:32.33 on May 9 at the Franson Last Chance Meet in Azusa, Calif. Chouati qualified for nationals in the 10,000-meter run with her time of 34:46.35 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 11 in Azusa, Calif. They are seeded 12th and 16th in this year's championship field. West Texas A&M University's Florance Uwajenza currently holds the fastest time in the nation with her time of 34:52.53 that she ran on April 11 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
CHOUATI: Besides provisionally qualifying for the Nationals in the 10,000-meter run, Chouati also recorded provisional times in the 1500-meter run (31st, 4:26.98) and 5000-meter run (38th, 16:42.37). At this year's CCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the senior Warrior was named the CCAA Female Athlete of the Meet and the High Point Recipient. She was the conference champion in the 10,000-meter run and earned All-CCAA honors by placing second in the 1500-meter run and 5,000-meter run. At the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., Chouati placed seventh in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:23.25 to earn All-American honors.
DISHION: Kaela Dishion provisionally qualified for the Nationals in the 5000-meter run to go along with her 10,000-meter run qualifying time. Dishion had the 44th fastest time in the nation in NCAA Division II with her time of 16:50.04, which she ran at the CCAA Championships on May 2 in Turlock. Her time of 34:32.33 in the 10,000-meter run was Dishion's personal best time.
INDOOR NATIONALS: Both Chouati and Dishion competed at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 8-9, in Pittsburg, Kansas, in the 5,000-meter run. Chouati ran a time of 16:53.95 to place 17th and Dishion ran a 20th-place time of 17:16.92.
OUTDOOR RECORD BOOKS: Najwa Chouati currently holds the school record in Warrior Women's Outdoor Track & Field history in the 3000-meter run (9:41.71), 5000-meter run (16:21.79), and 10,000-meter run (34:00.12) which she accomplished during the 2023 season. She is also fourth in the 1500-meter run (4:26.90), which she ran this season.
Kaela Dishion is second in the 10,000-meter run at Stan State with her time of 34:32.33 from this season. She is third in the 5000-meter run with her time of 16:50.04, which she ran at the 2024 CCAA's.
ALL-REGION: Najwa Chouati and Kaela Dishion joined teammates Caitlyn Bell, Jason Lindsay, and Annie Wild on the USTFCCCA All-West Region Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Teams. Chouati earned All-Region honors in the 1500-meter and 10,000-meter run events. Dishion earned All-Region honors in the 10,000-meter run while Wild was All-Region in the 1500-meter run. Bell and Lindsay earned All-Region honors respectively in the women's and men's hammer. The top five individuals in each event from each region earn All-Region honors.
LAST YEAR'S NATIONALS: At last year's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hurdler Trent Lauderdale ran a 51.87 to place tenth in the 400-hurdles to earn USTFCCCA All-American honors in Pueblo, Colo.
ALL-AMERICAN HONORS: To receive All-American honors a student-athlete must place first through eighth in their respective event or relay. To receive USTFCCCA Second Team All-American honors, a student-athlete must place ninth through twelfth in their event or ninth or tenth in their relay.
