THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
SENIOR CEREMONIES HIGHLIGHT THIS WEEK AHEAD FOR WARRIOR SPORTS
Stan State Department of Athletics will be recognizing twelve senior student-athletes this week at the Warrior men's and women's basketball doubleheader vs. Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday evening and the Kim Duyst Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. Prior to the women's final home game vs. CSUMB, the Warriors will recognize Joia Armstrong, Liliana (Cookie) Marques, and Ashmeen Sran. Noel Alexander Jr. and Isaiah Jones will be recognized prior to the start of the men's final home game vs. the Otters. On Day Two at approximately 12:10pm of the Kim Duyst Invitational on Saturday, the Warrior men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will recognize Isabel Arrizano, Cailtyn Bell, Najwa Chouati, Ero Doce, Jose Garcia, Jason Lindsay, and Shaylynn Wynn.
THREE WARRIORS WITH NCAA DII INDOOR TRACK & FIELD PROVISIONAL MARKS IN FOUR EVENTS
After the final week of the indoor track and field regular season, three Stan State Warrior student-athletes have provisionally qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 800-meter run, mile, 3,000-meter run, and 5.,000-meter run. Najwa Chouati is 18th in the 5,000-meter run (16:31.81) and 43rd in the mile (4:53.60). Kaela Dishion is 13th in the nation in the 5,000-meter (16:28.26) and 27th in the 3,000-meter (9:36.93). Annie Wild is 34th in the mile (4:52.15), and 43rd in the 800-meter run (2:12.36) while Jacqueline Sanchez is 61st in the 5,000-meter run (17:12.91). The official field of the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships will be announced this Tuesday, February 27 at 6pm (ET) on www.ncaa.com. This year's NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for March 7-9 in Pittsburg, Kansas, at the Robert W. Plaster on the campus of Pittsburg State University.
MEN'S GOLF SEVENTH IN THE REGION
In the recent SCOREBOARD/NCAA Division II Men's Golf rankings, sponsored by Clippd, Stan State is seventh in the West Region and 53rd in the nation. Chris Chomyn is third in the region and 21st in the nation while Nate Jetton is seventh in the region and 59th in the nation. Chomyn was named the CCAA co-men's golfer of the week last week for his medalist honors at the CSUSM Fujijura Invitational. Stan State returns to the course, February 26-28, at the Battle in the Desert in Borrego Springs, Calif.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FINISH FINAL ROAD TRIP 1-1
Stan State went 1-1 in its final road trip of the regular season to improve to 15-16 overall and 10-11 in the CCAA. The Warriors started their weekend with a 70-58 loss at Cal State San Bernardino. Mya Blake led the way for Stan State with her 17 points. Stan State finished the weekend with a 59-58 victory at Cal Poly Pomona behind Liliana Marques' 16 points and seven rebounds. The Warriors are in a three-way tie for seventh place with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal Poly Humboldt heading into the final regular season home game versus Cal State Monterey Bay this Thursday, February 29.
MEN'S BASKETBALL TO HOST CSUMB IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON HOME GAME
The Warriors will host Cal State Monterey Bay this Thursday, February 29 at 7:30pm in their final regular season home game at The Fitz. In their final road trip of the season, Stan State (7-20, 4-17 CCAA) went 0-2 in the Inland Valley. Dontrell Hewlett and John Wade III each scored 10 points in the Warriors' 93-50 loss at Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday. They lost on a heart breaker at Cal Poly Pomona (65-64) on Saturday. Hewlett had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Wade chipped in 13 points and Cam Walker added 11 points.
TRACK AND FIELD TO HOST KIM DUYST INVITATIONAL
Stan State men's and women's track and field teams will host the Kim Duyst Invitational this Friday-Saturday, March 1-2 at the Al Brenda at the Warrior Track. Three Warriors earned weekly honors from the CCAA for their performance at the Sunbird Invitational, February 17. Ero Doce and Cole Bailey swept the men's honors taking the CCAA Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. Reyna Dismukes captured the CCAA Female Field Athlete of the Week. Doce provisionally qualified in the 1500-meter run with his first-place performance at the Sunbird. Day One of the Kim Duyst will start at 9am on Friday with the throwing events. Day Two will begin at 9am on Saturday and at 12:10pm, the Warriors will recognize their seniors.
BASEBALL TAKES SERIES FINALE
Chris Catalano's walk-off single drove in Jackson Brooks with the game-winning run in the Warriors' 5-4 series final victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday. Stan State (5-7-1, 1-3 CCAA) went 1-3 against the Toros losing the first three games 10-2, 5-2, and 14-4 before taking the series finale 5-4. Robert Valdivia hit .333 and Chris Catalano hit .308 in the four-game series. Austin Balentine picked up the Warrior victory by pitching one inning of relief, giving up one hit and one unearned run while striking out two and walking one. JoJo Keldsen and Caleb Bertoncini combined to pitch eight innings, giving up three runs (one unearned) while striking out ten and walking two. Stan State returns to the diamond for a four-game series at No. 5 CSUSB this Friday-Sunday, March 1-3.
SOFTBALL TO HOST CHICO STATE, MARCH 1-2
Stan State to host Chico State in a four-game CCAA series this weekend beginning with a 2pm starting doubleheader this Friday, March 1. This will be Student Affairs Day at Stan State Softball Field. Game three and four of the weekend series will start at noon on Saturday, March 2. The Warriors went 1-5 this weekend. They split a doubleheader with Simon Fraser on Tuesday losing 9-0 (five innings) and defeating the Red Leafs 8-2. Sasha Martello recorded the victory and Payton Applequist had a three-run home run. Mikaela Ferreira was two-for-four with two runs batted in and a run scored. Lauryn Serda was three-for-four with a run batted in and two runs scored. Stan State (2-13, 1-7 CCAA) lost 2-0, 4-0, 5-3, and 12-3 (five innings) at Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend. Ferreira leads the team with her .310 batting average and 13 hits. She is tied with Payton Applequist each with six runs batted in while Katie Thornsberry has scored a team leading six runs. Martello has recorded both Warriors' two victories.
WOMEN'S TENNIS TO HOST DOMINICAN THIS FRIDAY
Stan State returns to the courts this Friday-Saturday, March 1-2 with a pair of PacWest Conference matches. The Warriors will host Dominican this Friday at noon and travel to Fresno Pacific for a 10am starting match in Fresno Saturday. The Warriors 91-4, 0-3 PacWest) lost 6-1 to Hawai'i Hilo Sunday afternoon at home. Zuzanna Dziewiecka was victorious at number one singles by a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 decIsion.

STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE AUSTIN BALENTINE AND NAJWA CHOUATI
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are baseball reliever Austin Balentine and track/field distance runner Najwa Chouati.
Chouati improved her time in the nation in the 5,000-meter run at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet this Friday in Seattle, with her time of 16:31.8 she is now 18th in the nation. She also ran a 5:01.74 in the mile at the Ken Shannon.
The senior distance runner is also 43rd in the nation in the mile.
Balentine picked up his second win of the season in the Warriors' 5-4 walk-off victory in their series finale win over CSUDH. He pitched one inning of relief, giving up one hit and one unearned run while striking out two and walking one. For the season, he is 2-0 with eight strikeouts and two walks in six innings pitched.

- Warriors Move Up to No. 13 Nationally, Ranked for Third Straight WeekThe Stanislaus State women's cross country team earned a No. 13 national ranking in the latest NCAA Division II poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday. This marks the third straight week the Warriors have been ranked in the national top 30, after opening the year at No. 17 in the preseason poll and holding steady at No. 16 the past two weeks. The No. 13 ranking is Stan State's highest national position so far this season.
- Stan State Men’s Soccer Ranked No. 2 Nationally, No. 1 in West for Third Straight WeekStanislaus State men's soccer remains ranked No. 2 in the nation for the third straight week, according to the United Soccer Coaches poll, while also holding the No. 1 spot in the West Region for the third consecutive week. The Warriors are one of only three teams in NCAA Division II to remain undefeated at 6–0, joining Lynn University and Young Harris College. They are also one of four programs from the West Region ranked nationally, alongside Cal Poly Pomona at No. 11, Seattle Pacific at No. 17, Cal State Los Angeles at No. 21, and Cal State San Bernardino at No. 25.
- Stan State Women’s Cross Country Ranked No. 1 in West Region for Third Straight WeekFor the third straight week, the Stanislaus State women's cross country team holds the No. 1 spot in the West Regional rankings, maintaining its top position in the USTFCCCA Division II poll. The Warriors are also ranked No. 16 in the nation, with updated national rankings set to be released by the USTFCCCA tomorrow morning.
- Tennis Concludes First Fall Appearance at ITA West RegionalThe Warriors women's tennis team completed their first fall outing at the ITA West Regional in La Mirada, Calif. on the campus of Biola University.
- Bascom Cards Top-20 Finish at WWU InvitationalStanislaus State men's golf closed out the Western Washington University Invitational on Tuesday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club, finishing 13th in the 14-team field. Owen Bascom led the Warriors with his two-over 218 to finish in a four-way tie for 17th place.
- Stan State Travels for Matches with Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East BayStan State's volleyball team is on the road this week to continue conference play. The Warriors will travel to Cal State Monterey Bay on October 3 for a match at 5:00 p.m., followed by a visit to Cal State East Bay on October 4 for a 5:00 p.m. match as well.
