Men’s Soccer Finishes Weekend 1-1
LACEY, Wash.--- After defeating Saint Martin's 4-1 two days, ago, Stan State lost 3-0 to Simon Fraser this afternoon in Lacey, Wash., to finish its opening weekend 1-1. The Warriors outshot the Red Leafs 20-15 with six different players recording at least two shot attempts this afternoon.
FIRST HALF: Simon Fraser (1-0-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Mads Poulsson scored off a ball from Brandon Torresan. The Warriors had a couple of chances to tie the match in the next couple of minutes including when Jordan Thorsen stopped Edgar Castaneda's shot on goal attempt in the 21st minute. The Red Leafs doubled their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Kian Proctor off a cross from Brandon Torresan in the 29th minute. Simon Fraser's goalkeeper (Jordan Thorsen) made another save with eight minutes left in the half when he stopped Jacob Ramirez's shot on goal attempt to send the match into the half with the Red Leafs leading 2-0.
SECOND HALF: Simon Fraser increased its lead to 3-0 on unassisted goal by Koji Poon just nine minutes into the new half. With nine minute left in regulation, Luis Flores had a chance to cut into the Warrior lead when his shot on goal attempt was snagged by the Red Leafs' keeper. Stan State (1-1) had one more chance to get on the board when Ramirez's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Thorsen as Simon Fraser took the 3-0 victory.
OUT SHOT: Stan State out-shot the Red Leafs 20-15 with Jacob Ramirez leading the way with four shot attempts including two on goal. Alecxander Cuellar had three shot attempts and Edgar Castaneda, Elio Corral, and Marco Carbajal each recording two shot attempts. Luis Flores and Castaneda each had a shot on goal attempt.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will continue their season beginning four-match road trip in Hawai'i, Sept. 12-14. They will face Chaminade (Sept. 12 at noon HT) and Hawai'i Pacific (Sept. 14 at 7pm HT). Both matches will take place in Honolulu. They will have their home opener on Wed., Sept. 18 at 5:00 p.m. against Fresno Pacific.
