Men’s Soccer Starts Off Trip to Hawai’i with 4-1 Win over Silverswords
HONOLULU, HI--- Elio Corral scored twice while Alecxsander Cuellar and Leonardo Muniz each scored twice in the Stan State Warriors' 4-1 victory over the Chaminade Silverswords this afternoon in to begin their trip to Hawai'i.
FIRST HALF: Stan State (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Elio Corral scored his first of two goals on a ball from Edgar Castaneda. Just one minute later, Chaminade (0-2) tied the match at 1-1 on a goal by Kala'i Cham Duncan off a pass from Owen Caba. The Silverswords had a chance to take the lead, but Angel Ruiz-Hernandez recorded one of his three saves on the day stopping Ian Cham Garcia's shot attempt in the 21st minute. The Warriors took the 2-1 with five minutes left in the half on a goal by Alecxander Cueller off a cross from Marco Carbajal.
SECOND HALF: The guests had a chance to increase their lead in the 52nd minute when Kili Chappell stopped Sammy Villanueva. Stan State took a 3-1 lead on a goal by Elio Corral off another assist by Castaneda in the 71st minute. They secured the non-conference 4-1 victory when they scored fourth goal when Leonardo Muniz connected on a ball from Kenneth Solares.
GOALIE: Angel Ruiz Hernandez had three saves in goal for the Warriors. He improved to 2-1 in goal for Stan State.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will finish off their four-match road trip with a 7pm (HT) match at Hawai'i Pacific this Saturday, September 14. They will have their home opener on Wednesday, September 20 at 5pm when Stan State hosts Fresno Pacific.
