Baseball Fourth in Nation in Fielding Percentage, 12th in Sacrifice Bunts, and 21st in Double Plays Per Game
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--- In the most recent NCAA Division II baseball statistics report that was released this Monday by the NCAA's Department of Statistics, Stan State is fourth in the nation with its .980 fielding percentage, 12th with its 36 sacrifice hits, and 21st with its 0.85 double plays per game average. In the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Warriors lead the conference in fielding percentage and tied for first in triples and sacrifice hits.
Stan State has a .980 fielding percentage in 40 games with 1032 putouts, 415 assists, and 30 errors. The Warriors' opponents have grounded into 34 doubles plays this season in 40 games for a 0.85 double plays per game average. Heading into this weekend's final home stand, the Warriors have 36 sacrifice hits led by Ryan Leonesio and Robert Valdivia each with six.
East Stroudsburg leads the nation with its .983 fielding percentage. Coker has a nation's leading 49 sacrifice hits with Saint Leo leading the nation with its 1.10 double play per game average.
The Warriors have committed no errors in twenty of their four games this season.
With at least five chances this season, eight Stan State players have not recorded an error this season for a 1.000 fielding percentage. These eight are Jacob Baker, JD Madrigal, Jackson Brooks, Jacob Reyes, Rocco Gurrola, Noah Chelberg, Cameron Rosen, and Austin Balentine.
Stan State (18-22, 13-17 CCAA) will host Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday-Saturday, April 25-27 in its final four-game home stand of the regular season. The two teams will begin the series with a 6:00 p.m. scheduled first pitch on Blue Chip Broadcasting Sponsorship Night this Friday, April 25. Stan State will host the Otters in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader this Saturday, April 26. The series will conclude on Senior Day this Sunday, April 27. The Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 11:20 a.m. on the diamond of Warrior Field on Sunday.
