Stanislaus State’s Gerardo Flores Named United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Month

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--- Stanislaus State junior forward Gerardo Flores has been named the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Month for October, following an outstanding stretch that helped the Warriors maintain their national prominence and push toward a historic regular season finish.

Flores recorded five goals and four assists in nine matches during October, leading Stan State to a 7-1-1 record while averaging more than three shots and 1.56 points per game. His offensive surge included game-winning goals against Cal Poly Humboldt and Chico State, along with multi-point performances in four matches.

During that time, Flores was also named the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 20–26 after powering the Warriors to another perfect weekend and extending their unbeaten streak to 14 matches. He fueled the attack with two goals and two assists across two matches that kept Stanislaus State atop the conference standings and clinched its first CCAA Tournament berth since 2015.

Flores netted both goals in a 2-0 win over Chico State, breaking the deadlock in the 59th minute off a feed from Samuel Villanueva before adding another in the 67th minute with help from Christian Brenes and Emmanuel Duran. Two days later, he assisted on Emmanuel Duran's go-ahead goal and Alexis Cervantes' late match-clincher in a 4-1 road victory at Cal State Monterey Bay.

Behind Flores' performance, the Warriors put together a school-record seven-match winning streak and closed October with an overall record of 13-1-1 and a 7-1-1 mark in CCAA play. For the season, Flores has totaled nine goals and five assists for 23 points, including five game-winners, to lead a potent Warrior attack that has outscored opponents 33–9 through 15 matches.

The Stanislaus State men's soccer team continues to be recognized among the nation's best, checking in at No. 3 in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II national poll released Tuesday, November 4. The Warriors, who held the No. 1 national ranking for two consecutive weeks in October, have now spent eight straight weeks ranked in the Top 5 nationally as they close out the regular season with an opportunity to capture their first-ever CCAA regular-season title.

They continue to rank among the most balanced and efficient teams in the country, combining one of Division II's stingiest defenses with a dynamic offensive group. Offensively, Flores, Emmanuel Duran, Sebastian Carbajal, Adrian Yepez, and Samuel Villanueva have powered a unit that ranks among the national leaders in scoring, assists, and goal differential. Defensively, goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez and the back line of Villanueva, Christian Brenes, Ian Reis, Federico Barbieri, David Lozano, and Ryan Rosas have anchored one of the top goals-against averages in the nation, producing multiple shutouts this season.

Stanislaus State has clinched its first CCAA Tournament berth since 2015. The six-team championship begins Sunday, November 9, at higher-seed sites, with the top two seeds earning byes to the semifinals and final, November 14–16, at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, California, on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Warriors will wrap up their regular season on Thursday, November 6, hosting UC Merced at 11:30 a.m. at Warrior Stadium, live on FloCollege. A Stan State win, combined with a Cal State Dominguez Hills loss or tie at Cal State East Bay, would secure the program's first-ever CCAA regular-season championship. Heading into the final match, the Warriors sit in second place in the conference standings, just one point behind No. 9 Cal State Dominguez Hills.
