Stan State Two-Time All-American Pitcher, Louie Souza, to Throw Out Ceremonial First Pitch at This Saturday’s Warrior Baseball Doubleheader
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Former Stan State pitcher Louie Souza '80 will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to game one of this Saturday's doubleheader against Cal State Los Angeles at Warrior Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:55 p.m. prior to the 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader.
Souza grew up in Southern California and graduated from Cerritos High School in 1976, where he was named to the 3A First Team All-CIF as a Pitcher.
After graduating from Cerritos HS, Souza played for two years for Cerritos Junior College as a pitcher/outfielder from 1977 to 1978.
Souza then transferred to Stan State and played for Head Coach Jim Bowen from 1979 to 1980. He was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American and was named to the 1980 First team All-Far West Conference as a pitcher. At that time, Souza tied for the most wins in a season with 13. Souza finished his career as a Warrior with a 23-12 record.
After graduating from Stan State, Souza became a teacher/coach from 1981 to 2011 at the high school level. He was the head varsity baseball coach at Central Catholic High School from 1984 to 1987 and Merced High School from 1989 to 2011. Souza was the Athletic Director at El Capitan High School in Merced from 2013 to 2019. He retired in 2019 and is still residing in Merced.
