No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona Proves Difficult Opponent for Stan State
POMONA, Calif.--- The Warriors faced Cal Poly Pomona this afternoon at Kellogg Arena, falling 78-41. Da'Myiah Lewis led the way with 20 points, adding 10 rebounds for a double-double.
FIRST QUARTER: Cal Poly Pomona (14-2, 9-1 CCAA) took an early lead of a jumper and a layup. They continued to pressure the Warriors while maintaining their defense, going on a 21-point run to take control of the game. A three-pointer by Da'Myiah Lewis put Stan State on the board as they began to chip away at the Broncos' lead with Cal Poly Pomona ahead 23-7 at the end of the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: A three-pointer by Daja Scott-Mitchell was the first of Stan State's (4-12, 3-7 CCAA) scoring in the second quarter. The two teams traded points until the Broncos broke out on another run. After 13 points, the Warriors made three of their own, closing out the half with the Broncos leading 46-17.
THIRD QUARTER: The Broncos earned six before the Warriors scored six of their own. Cal Poly Pomona found more opportunities though, extending their lead. Da'Myiah Lewis chipped in a free throw before the end of the period, the Broncos leading 68-25.
FOURTH QUARTER: A three-pointer from Tia Barefield got things going for the Warriors in the fourth quarter. Both teams held each other to a stalemate for two minutes before a layup by Da'Myiah Lewis broke the silence. Though Stan State scored a few more buckets before the buzzer, Cal Poly Pomona finished the game ahead 78-41.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Da'Myiah Lewis paired her 20 points with 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Lewis also stole three balls, earned an assist, and assisted a block.
REBOUNDIN': Da'Myiah Lewis, Daja Scott-Mitchell, and Quinn Garrett put up solid numbers in rebounds tonight. Lewis snagged 10, Scott-Mitchell grabbed eight, and Garrett secured six.
UP NEXT: The Warriors return home for two games next week, facing Sonoma State on Thursday, January 23rd at 5:30 p.m., followed by a game on Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 p.m. versus Cal State San Marcos.
