Stan State Cross Country Teams Eye NCAA Nationals Berth at West Regional Championships

MONMOUTH, Ore. — The Stanislaus State men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the 2025 NCAA Division II West Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Ash Creek Preserve on the campus of Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. Both Stan State squads look to build on strong conference performances and secure berths in the NCAA Division II National Championships later this month in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Stan State Women Ranked Among Nation's Best
The Stanislaus State women enter the regional meet ranked No. 10 nationally and No. 2 in the West Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) polls released Oct. 29. Stan State has now appeared in the national rankings for seven straight weeks and remains one of only two CCAA programs among the nation's top 10, joining No. 9 Chico State. Other nationally ranked programs from the West Region include Biola (No. 13), Western Washington (No. 20), and Alaska Anchorage (No. 27), showcasing the region's depth heading into the postseason.

Strong Showing at CCAA Championships
Stan State is coming off a runner-up finish at the CCAA Championships in Chico, where the team totaled just 24 points and placed five runners in the top 15 to earn All-CCAA honors. Annie Wild led the way with a second-place individual finish in 21:39.5, followed closely by Izzy Soto (7th), Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva (8th), Nina Furtado (10th), and Bela Moreno (12th). It marked the third straight All-CCAA honor for both Wild and Sanchez-Silva, and the second for Crystal Hernandez (16th). The Stan State women will look to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year and third time in the last four seasons.

Recapping Last Year's Regional Success
At last year's NCAA Division II West Regional Championships in Billings, Montana, the Stan State women finished fifth out of 28 teams to earn a berth to the national championships, while the men placed sixth among 22 teams. Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva (9th, 21:07.39) and Annie Wild (13th, 21:26.06) both earned All-Region honors, joined by Crystal Hernandez (30th, 21:55.33) on the women's side. Abe Alsaidi led the Stan State men, placing 25th in 31:21.91 to earn All-Region recognition, followed by Tanner Gerhart (30th) and Jackson Oliveira (40th).

Men Face Deep, Competitive Field
On the men's side this season, Stan State will line up against one of the country's strongest regional fields, which features five nationally ranked teams: No. 11 Chico State, No. 13 Western Washington, No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona, No. 20 Alaska Anchorage, and No. 23 Northwest Nazarene. Regionally, those same programs make up the West's top five, followed by top contenders from the CCAA, GNAC, and PacWest conferences. Stan State, which finished fourth at the CCAA Championships for its fifth straight top-four conference finish, will look to move up in the regional standings behind All-CCAA performer Mason Oliveira and his twin brother Jackson Oliveira, the team's frontrunner throughout the season.

Road to the National Championships
The top three teams in both the men's and women's races automatically advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships, along with the top two individuals not on qualifying teams. In addition, several at-large team selections will be announced by the NCAA on Monday, Nov. 10, completing the national championship field.

This year's NCAA Division II National Championships will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Up Next
The women's 6K race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 10K at 11:15 a.m. at Ash Creek Preserve.
