TURLOCK, Calif. – Off to a perfect start through six non-conference matches, the No. 2-ranked Stanislaus State men's soccer team will open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this weekend at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors (6-0-0) host Cal State East Bay on Friday, Oct. 3 at 4:30 p.m., before facing No. 12 Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.

Friday's contest will serve as the Warriors' annual Kick Cancer Match, raising awareness and showing support in the fight against cancer. Sunday's showdown with Cal State LA will be celebrated as Hispanic/Latinx Appreciation Day, recognizing and honoring the contributions of the community.

Update on the Warriors
Stan State closed non-conference play with six consecutive victories, outscoring opponents 15-2 while recording four shutouts. Emmanuel Duran leads the team with five goals, while Gerardo Flores has four — including a league-best three game-winners. Samuel Villanueva has been the playmaker with seven assists, tied for the most in the conference. In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has anchored a stingy defense, posting a 0.33 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage.

The Warriors are also one of only three programs in Division II men's soccer to be undefeated at 6-0 this season, joining Lynn University and Young Harris College.

Recent Results
On Sept. 18, the Warriors blanked No. 19 Menlo, 1-0, behind a first-half strike from Emmanuel Duran, assisted by Adrian Yepez and Samuel Villanueva. The result marked their third straight shutout and improved the team to 5-0.

Then on Sept. 20, Stan State edged Dominican 1-0 in a road match to improve to 6-0 — their best start since 2015 — and recorded a fourth straight shutout. Gerardo Flores delivered the game-winner in the 16th minute off a feed from Villanueva, and Ruiz-Hernandez made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Scouting Cal State East Bay (2-3-1)
The Pioneers enter CCAA play unbeaten in three of their last four matches, including a 1-1 draw at Concordia (Irvine). Alejandro Zarate leads the way with two goals and a team-high 23 shots, while Jonas Banouas has also tallied twice. East Bay averages 1.5 goals per game but has given up nine across six contests. Goalkeeper Adan Corona has started five matches, posting a .765 save percentage.

Stan State holds an 11-7-2 advantage in the all-time series. The Warriors dropped last year's meeting, 1-0, in Hayward, while their last win over the Pioneers came in 2022, a 4-2 victory in Turlock.

Scouting No. 12 Cal State LA (3-0-4)
The Golden Eagles remain unbeaten in 2025 thanks to one of the nation's top defenses, having allowed just three goals through seven matches. Goalkeeper Brayden McClelland has recorded five shutouts with a .885 save percentage. Offensively, seven different players have scored, led by Geovanni Antuna and Jeancarlo Alvarez with one game-winner apiece. LA has outshot opponents 87-66 overall and holds a +5 goal differential.

Cal State LA leads the all-time series 17-1-2. The Golden Eagles edged the Warriors, 2-1, last season in Turlock. Stan State's last win in the series was a 4-0 triumph at home in 2010.

National Leaders
Stan State ranks in the top ten nationally in seven statistical categories: first in winning percentage, third in save percentage, third in goals-against average, fourth in goal differential, fifth in assists per game, and seventh in shutout percentage. Individually, Samuel Villanueva leads the nation in both total assists and assists per game, Gerardo Flores is third in game-winning goals, and goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez stands fifth in goals-against average and seventh in save percentage.

CCAA Leaders
Four Warriors rank in the top ten of the CCAA across multiple statistical categories. In goals, Emmanuel Duran is first and Gerardo Flores is tied for second. In assists, Samuel Villanueva leads the league, while Adrian Yepez is tied for third. For game-winning goals, Flores is first, Kenneth Solares is tied for second, and Duran is tied for fourth. Between the posts, Ruiz-Hernandez leads the conference in goals-against average and save percentage, is tied for second in shutouts, and ranks seventh in total saves.

Warrior Record Book
Several Warriors are climbing the program's career and single-season record books in the Division II era. Samuel Villanueva is tied for second all-time in career assists with 11, trailing only Nolan Holdridge's program-best 15. In the single-season charts, Villanueva sits third with seven assists, chasing Gerardo Cazares' record of 10. In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has moved into sixth place with eight career shutouts, while Jose Herrera holds the all-time mark with 20.

The Warriors will face No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 and take on Cal Poly Pomona at 2 p.m. on Oct. 12. They will then head to Cal Poly Humboldt for a 3 p.m. contest on Oct. 17 before returning home on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. to host Cal State San Marcos on Senior Day at Warrior Stadium.
