THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
BUSY WEEK AHEAD FOR WARRIOR ATHLETICS
Busy week ahead for Warrior Athletics as baseball, men's basketball, men's golf, men's/women's outdoor track and field, softball, women's basketball, and women's tennis will all be in action. Stan State men's golf begins the week in San Marcos at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational, Monday, and Tuesday. Homecoming is set for this Thursday when the basketball teams host Cal Poly Humboldt. Friday will have the softball team hosting No. 7 Cal State San Marcos and baseball hosting Central Washington. Stan State women's tennis team will be at Academy of Art. This Saturday, softball will conclude its four-game series with Cal State San Marcos while baseball will host Central Washington. Stan State basketball teams will host Chico State. The week will end with baseball hosting CWU in the series finale.
STAN STATE SAAC BASIC NEEDS DRIVE THIS WEEK, FEB. 11-17
This week is the Annual Stan State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Basic Needs Drive. The drive will run from Sunday, February 11th to Saturday, February 17th. All donations will go directly to the Warrior Food Pantry. Let's help them PACK THE PANTRY!
Items acceptable for donations include the following: 1.) Canned items (e.g. vegetables, beans, etc.), 2.) Bagged/Boxed Items (e.g. rice, pasta, etc.) and 3.) Hygiene products (e.g. deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine products, etc.).
All Items can be brought to the Athletic Office in The Fitzpatrick Arena or Student Services Room 136 Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Warrior fans and fans of their opponents who bring a donation of three basic need items will be admitted to this week's respective home contest for FREE!!!
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ONE GAME OUT OF FOURTH PLACE
Even though the Warriors went 0-2 this past weekend, Stan State (13-14, 8-9 CCAA) is still just one game out of fourth place in the CCAA as there is a long jam from fourth to ninth in the CCAA regular season standings with five games left in the regular season. The Warriors lost 46-44 to Sonoma State and Cal State San Marcos 76-59 on the road this weekend. In the two games, Mya Blake averaged 16.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.7% from three-point land. Talia Maxwell scored a season high 16 points at Cal State San Marcos while averaging 7.5 rebounds per game. Stan State returns to The Fitz when the Warriors host Cal Poly Humboldt this Thursday and No. 19 Chico State this Saturday.
CHOUATI IMPROVES TIME IN 5K WHILE WARRIORS MOVE UP IN TOP TEN LISTS
Najwa Chouati ran a 16:43.75 to improve her provisional time in the 5,000-meter run in the Big Meet Friday in Allendale, Mich. She is now 20th in the nation in NCAA Division II. Four Warriors moved up in the top ten lists in their respective events. Reyna Dismukes is now tied for third in the long jump while Isabel Arrizano moved into fifth in the 60-meter dash. Lauren Steuben and Mila Real are ninth and tenth respectively in the 60-meter hurdles.
Four Warriors are still amongst the nation's leaders with their provisional times in three events. Kaela Dishion is 12th in the 5,000-meter run (16:28.26) and 26th in the 3,000-meter run (9:36.93). Najwa Chouati is 21st in the 5,000-meter run (16:43.75) and 40th in the mile (4:53.60). Annie Wild is 29th in the mile (4:52.15) and Jacqueline Sanchez is 51st in the 5,000-meter run (17:12.91).
BASEBALL FINISHES THREE-GAME SERIES WITH NNU WITH 12-12 TIE
Stan State went 0-2-1 with Northwest Nazarene this weekend losing the first two games 4-0 and 7-3, before playing to a 12-12 tie in the series finale. The Warriors (2-2-1) are led by Alex Solis' .444 batting average followed by Ryan Leonesio (.400), Chris Catalano (.389), Tyler Van Dyk (.333), and Jerry Nix (.300). Trent Huff has a team low o1.29 earned run average and Tony Jacob has struck out a team high six batters. The Warriors will host Central Washington this week in a four-game non-conference series.
MEN'S BASKETBALL BACK HOME TO HOST CAL POLY HUMBOLDT AND NO. 19 CHICO STATE
Stan State (6-17, 3-14 CCAA) went 0-2 on the road in the CCAA this weekend including losing a heartbreaker at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday (80-75). The Warriors started the weekend with a 75-58 loss at Sonoma State on Thursday. Dontrell Hewlett averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while he shot 61.9% from the field including 50% from three-point land. Jeremiah Jones averaged 12.5 points per game as he was five-for-five from the line and shot 52.6% from the field. Stan State returns to The Fitz when the Warriors host Cal Poly Humboldt this Thursday and No. 19 Chico State this Saturday.
SOFTBALL AT THE NORTH BAY CHALLENGE
The Warriors went 0-2 in their two games at the North Bay Challenge on Sunday losing 5-4 to Saint Martin's and 3-1 to Dominican. Katie Thornsberry and Faith Erb each hit .500 in the two games. Payton Applequist had a two-run home run and Thornsberry scored twice. Victoria Alacorn, Sasha Martello, and Shelby Frutoz each saw action in the circle for the Warriors. Heading into their home four-game series with No. 7 Cal State San Marcos, Stan State is led by Payton Applequist's .385 batting average followed by Sarah Warden and Shelby Frutoz each with a .333 average. Frutoz has a team ow 2.33 earned run average.
WOMEN'S TENNIS DROP TWO ON THE ROAD
The Warriors lost 7-0 at Fresno State and 6-1 at Dominican over the weekend to fall to 1-2 this Spring season. The lone Stan State winner was Annabelle Mulick at number two singles, 6-1 and 6-3. Stan State will be at Academy of Art this Friday for a 11am starting match in Daly City, Calif.
MEN'S GOLF AND M/W OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD BEGIN SEASON THIS WEEK
Stan State men's golf will begin its spring season this Monday and Tuesday, February 12-13 at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational at the Shadowbridge Golf Club in Vista, Calif. The Warrior men's and women's outdoor track and field team will begin their season at the Sunbird Invite hosted by Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, Calif.

STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE REYNA DISMUKES AND DONTRELL HEWLETT
This week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are indoor track and field jumper Reyna Dismukes and men's basketball guard Dontrell Hewlett.
Dismukes is now tied for third in the long jump on the Warriors' top ten indoor list with Franchesca Shepard. She had a jump of 5.32m (17-5-5) to finish in 12th place in Friday's field at the Big Meet Friday in Allendale, Mich.
Hewlett averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in Stan State's two road games. He shot 61.9% from the field including 50% from three-point land while connecting on 78% of his attempts from beyond the arc.
