Warrior Soccer Opens CCAA Play at Home This Weekend
The Stan State men's and women's soccer teams open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at home this weekend. The Warriors host Cal State East Bay on Friday, October 3, for the Annual Kick Cancer Matches (men at 4:30 p.m., women at 7:00 p.m.) and Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, October 5, for Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Appreciation Day (men at 11:30 a.m., women at 2:00 p.m.). Sunday's top 25 matchup between the No. 2 Warrior men and No. 12 Golden Eagles has also been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Game of the Week.
16th-Ranked Warriors Finish as UC Riverside Invitational Runner-Up
The 16th-ranked Stan State Warriors finished runner-up at the UC Riverside Invitational, led by Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva's third-place finish and Annie Wild's fifth-place effort. Against a 24-team field loaded with Division I programs, the Warriors emerged as the top Division II squad, outperforming UC Irvine, Sacramento State, Cal Baptist, and Southern Utah. Stevie Holguin (19th), Izzy Soto (26th), and Nina Furtado (41st) also contributed to the second-place team finish.
Volleyball Opens CCAA Play 4-0 for First Time in Program History
Stan State volleyball made history by starting CCAA play 4-0 for the first time ever. The Warriors swept Chico State (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) on Friday behind Isabella Saucedo's 14 kills, seven team service aces led by Lauren Gonzales with four, and seven blocks each from Irene London and Malia Tanksley. They followed up with another sweep of Cal Poly Humboldt (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) as Saucedo added 12 kills, the Warriors hit .341 as a team, Shaelynn Pruiett recorded 20 of the team's 36 assists, Victoria Plumb served three aces, and London tallied seven more blocks. Stan State now stands at 6-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Jackson Oliveira Paces Warriors at UC Riverside Invitational
Stan State's Jackson Oliveira led the Warriors with a 10th-place finish in the 8K at the UC Riverside Invitational in Riverside, Calif. The Warriors placed 15th overall in the 24-team, Division I-heavy field. Jackson's twin brother, Mason Oliveira, finished 47th, followed by Osvaldo Segoviano (104th), Jonathan Hupman (117th), and Patricio Kearney (131st). The top 10 effort marked Jackson's second such finish of the season, having also placed 10th earlier this month at the Kim Duyst Twilight.
Women's Soccer Concludes Non-Conference Slate 4-1-2
The Stan State women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play at 4-1-2 after a strong week featuring a 2-1 win at Westmont and a dramatic 1-0 Cowbell Cup victory over UC Merced. At Westmont, Kellyann Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Jocelyn Figueroa netted the game-winner off a cross from Haylee Sousa after the hosts had equalized. Back home on Sunday, the Warriors edged UC Merced on a last-second own goal, with goalkeeper Zara Mujica recording five saves to secure her fourth win and fourth shutout of the season.
Women's Tennis Competes at ITA West Regionals
Stan State began its fall season at the ITA West Regionals in La Mirada, Calif., hosted by Biola University. Maiah White, Abbigail Mulick, Emi Mikami, Emma Yu, Parker Orlando, and Katrine Damkjaer all picked up singles victories, while Orlando and Mikami teamed up for doubles win. Men's Soccer Holds No. 2 National Ranking, No. 1 in West Region
Stan State men's soccer enters the week ranked No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in the West Region in the latest United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II poll, with the next rankings set to be released Tuesday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m. (PT). The Warriors remain the only undefeated team in the CCAA. Emmanuel Duran leads the squad with five goals, Gerardo Flores has contributed four goals and three game-winners, and Samuel Villanueva paces the attack with seven assists. Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez anchors the defense with a 0.34 goals-against average, .895 save percentage, 17 saves, and three shutouts. Stan State hosts Cal State East Bay on Friday, October 3, at 4:30 p.m. and No. 12 Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, October 5, at 11:30 a.m.
Men's Golf Returns to Action in Washington
The Warriors return to the course Monday–Tuesday, September 29–30, at the 54-hole Western Washington University Invitational at the par-72 Bellingham Golf & Country Club in Bellingham, Wash. Stan State is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Wildcat Classic in Chico, Calif., where they shot a four-under-par 860. Riley Kirk led the way with a seven-under 209, tying for 10th place. Joining Kirk this week are Ricky Sullivan, Carson Diaz, Owen Bascom, and Chase Bird.

Donna Pierce Warriors of the Week: Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva, Jackson Oliveira, and Isabella Saucedo
This week's Donna Pierce Warriors of the Week are cross country standouts Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva and Jackson Oliveira, along with volleyball outside hitter Isabella Saucedo.
Sanchez-Silva shined at the UC Riverside Invitational, placing third in the women's 6K with a time of 20:23.1 (5:28 mile pace). She led the 16th-ranked Stan State women to a second-place team finish as the top Division II program in the field, ahead of UC Irvine, Sacramento State, Cal Baptist, and Utah Tech. Teammate Annie Wild also finished in the top five.
Oliveira turned in a strong performance in the men's 8K, running 23:58.9 to place 10th overall in a Division I-heavy field. The sophomore averaged 4:49 per mile to pace the Warriors, who finished 15th of 24 teams. His brother Mason added a 49th-place finish for the squad.
On the court, Saucedo powered Stan State volleyball to a history-making 4-0 start in CCAA play. The senior outside hitter totaled 26 kills on a .344 hitting percentage, along with 13 digs, three aces, and two block assists in sweeps of Chico State and Humboldt. She posted 14 kills and nine digs Friday, followed by 12 kills and two aces Saturday, driving the Warriors' perfect weekend.
