Stanislaus State Climbs to No. 8 in United Soccer Coaches West Region Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Stanislaus State women's soccer program has advanced its regional standing, now ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 – NCAA Division II Women — West Region, released October 14. The Warriors (5-2-4, 1-1-2 CCAA) climbed into the poll after earning a pair of results on their Southern California trip against Cal State San Bernardino and top-ranked Cal Poly Pomona.
In Friday's match at Cal State San Bernardino, Olivia Maragos opened the scoring in the 25th minute on an assist from Haylee Sousa. The Warriors' second goal came in the 56th minute on an own goal forced by sustained attacking pressure. On Sunday, Sousa found the net in the 52nd minute off a setup from Jocelin Road to give Stan State a second-half lead at Cal Poly Pomona before the Broncos equalized late to preserve the draw. Goalkeeper Zara Mujica made eight saves across the two matches, including several key stops in the closing minutes against Pomona.
Cal Poly Pomona continues to lead the West Region rankings at No. 1, followed by Western Washington and Simon Fraser in the top three. Concordia Irvine sits at No. 4, with Azusa Pacific, Western Oregon, and Point Loma Nazarene rounding out spots five through seven. Behind Stanislaus State at No. 8 are Seattle Pacific (No. 9) and Cal State San Marcos (No. 10).
Nationally, the Warriors are among nine West Region programs either ranked or receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25. Cal Poly Pomona checks in at No. 6, Western Washington at No. 14, and Simon Fraser at No. 19, while Concordia Irvine, Azusa Pacific, Western Oregon, Point Loma Nazarene, Stanislaus State, and Seattle Pacific are all receiving votes.
Stanislaus State now brings a four-match unbeaten streak (1–0–3) into its next outings. The defense remains a team strength, allowing just 0.91 goals per game and collecting five shutouts behind Mujica, who owns a .811 save percentage. Offensively, Maragos leads with four goals and nine points, while Sousa, Road, and Kellyann Rodriguez continue to pace a balanced attack that has found the net in nine of 11 matches.
The first NCAA Division II West Region rankings will be released on October 29 with the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Selection Show set for November 17 at 6:30 p.m. PT on www.ncaa.com.
