Warriors Play To a 1-1 Draw with Biola

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State finished its four-match home stand with a 2-0-2 record after a 1-1 draw with the visiting Biola Eagles this evening at Warrior Stadium.  Sabrina Cabrera connected on a ball from Kaley Miller for the game-tying goal just thirteen minutes into the second half.

FIRST HALF: Biola (0-3-3) had the match's first chance for a goal in the third minute when Malia Allen stopped the Eagles' Briley Phelps' shot on goal attempt.  Ten minutes later, the Warriors had a chance for the 1-0 lead, but Aliah Avila's shot sailed right of the goal.  Allen made another stop in the 30th minute snagging Jordyn Provience's shot attempt.  She made another save five minutes later with a save of Kierstin Haven's shot on goal attempt.  Stan State (3-1-2) had three chances for lead, but Kellyann Rodriguez, Haylee Heffner, and Kayla Perez all saw their shots go over the goal to send the match into the half scoreless.

SECOND HALF:  Marlje Rechin gave the guests the 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the new half on a corner kick.  Stan State had a chance to tie the match in the 58th minute, but Kyndra Obermeyer's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Eagles' Autum Monty.  The Warriors tied the match, 1-1, one minute later a goal by Sabrina Cabrera off a pass from Kaley Miller.  With 15 minutes left in regulation, both Makeila Yancey and Arionna Imhoff had their shot on goal attempts be stopped by the Eagles' Monty. Neither team had a shot attempt in the final minutes as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

TALE OF TWO HALVES:  Biola outshot the Warriors in the first half 8-4 including 4-0 in shot on goal attempts.  Stan State outshot the Eagles 7-5 including 5-3 in shot on goal attempts. 

ALLEN IN GOAL:  Malia Allen had a season high six saves in goal for the Warriors to give her ten for the season.  Allen now has a 1.69 goals against average.

CABRERA:  Sabrina Cabrera scored her first goal since she scored two goals in the Warriors' 3-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona on October 14, 2022.  That season she scored seven goals and had an assist including four game-winning goals.  Lat season, she had one assists in four matches.

SECOND ASSIST:  Kaley Miller recorded her second assist of the season on Sabrina Cabrera's goal in the 59th minute.  Earlier this month, she assisted on Aliah Avila's game-winning goal in the Warriors' 1-0 win over Western Oregon. 

UP NEXT:  Stan State will finish its non-conference slate this Saturday, September 28 with a 4:30 p.m. match at Chico State in Chico, Calif.  The Warriors will return home next week when they begin conference play versus Cal State Dominguez Hills (October 4 at 7:00 p.m.) and No. 25 Cal State Los Angeles (October 6 at 2:00 p.m.).
