Stan State Secures Series with Doubleheader Sweep
HAYWARD, Calif.--- With the sweep of this afternoon's road conference doubleheader in Hayward, Calif., Stan State secured the series win against Cal State East Bay. The Warriors were victorious today 12-8 and 6-5 to take the first three games of the four-game series. The visitors had 24 hits and scored 18 runs this afternoon. Leading the way were the trio of Ryan Leonesio, Flavio Perez, and Robert Valdivia who went a combined 14-for-24, driving in 11 runs, scoring eight runs, hitting three home runs and two doubles for the victors. Recording the victories on the mound were Cameron Rosen (2-2) and Rocco Gurrola (3-4).
GAME ONE: Cal State East Bay (16-25, 12-19 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stan State tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run third inning. Danny Murphy drew a lead-off walk. He stole second and scored on a two-out two-run home run over the left field fence by Robert Valdivia.
The Pioneers retook the lead, 5-2, with a three-run third capped by a two-out two-run single by Jaylen Hodges. They added another run in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.
Stan State took its first lead of the game with a seven-run fifth inning. With two outs, Jackson Brooks walked and went to second on a Ryan Leonesio single. He scored on a single by Valdivia. Leonesio scored on a Luke Davies single. Valdivia and Davies each scored on a two-run Arthur Navarette Jr. double. The Warriors took an 8-6 lead on a two-run home run by Flavio Perez. They ended their scoring in the fifth on a solo home run by Alex Solis to take a 9-6 lead.
The Warriors added an insurance run in the seventh. Valdivia had a lead-off single. He went to second on a two-out single by Perez. The senior shortstop scored on a Solis single to increase the Warriors' lead to 10-6. Stan State took an 11-6 lead with a run in the eighth. Brooks had a one-out triple and scored on a RBI ground out by Leonesio.
The hosts cut the Warrior lead to 11-8 on a one-out two-run home run by Gio Martin in the bottom of the eighth. Perez's second home run of the game a solo shot in the ninth gave Stan State a 12-8 lead.
Noah Chelberg held the Pioneers scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the 12-8 Warrior victory.
TRIO OF MULTIPLE-HIT GAMES: The trio of Robert Valdivia, Flavio Perez, and Alex Solis had multiple-hit game in the opener today. Valdivia went three-for-five with three runs batted in, three runs scored, and a home run. Flavio Perez was three-for-five with three runs batted in, two runs scored, and two home runs. Alex Solis was two-for-five with two runs batted in, a run scored, and a home run.
ROSEN/CHELBERG: Cameron Rosen (2-2) pitched five innings of relief, giving up six hits, three runs, while striking out two, and walking two. Noah Chelberg pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief while giving up two hits.
GAME TWO: Stan State (17-22, 12-17 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead in its first at bat of the night cap. Robert Valdivia had a lead-off double and scored on a triple by Luke Davies. The guests took a 2-0 lead when Davies scored on a ground out by Arthur Navarette Jr.
Cal State East Bay cut Warrior lead to 2-1 with a run in its half of the first.
The Warriors came right back with a two-run second inning to increase their lead to 4-1. Jonluke Goldman had a lead-off single. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jacob Baker. With two outs, he scored on a Ryan Leonesio double. Leonesio scored on a Valdivia single.
The Pioneers cut the Warrior lead to 4-2 on lead-off solo home run by Camron Grant. They took their first lead of the game, 5-4, with a three-run fifth capped by a one-out two-run double by Gio Martini.
Stan State retook the lead, 6-5, for good with a two-run sixth inning. Goldman had a lead-off single and went to second on a single by Baker. Each runner advanced a base on a sacrifice by Brooks. Goldman scored the tying run on a successful fielder's choice sacrifice bunt by Leonesio. The guests took the 6-5 lead when Baker scored on a one-out single by Valdivia.
The hosts had a chance to tie the game or take the lead in their last at bat. With one out, Amayas Lamar had a single. He went to second on a single by Dominick Najar. With two outs, Grant drew a walk to load the bases. Rocco Gurrola (3-4) induced the final Pioneer to fly out to Baker in center to preserve the Warriors' 6-5 game three victory.
GURROLA: Rocco Gurrola picked up the complete game victory in the night cap. He pitched seven innings, giving up seven hits and five runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking one.
MORE MULTIPLE-HIT GAMES: The Warrior musketeers of Robert Valdivia, Flavio Perez, Jonluke Goldman, and Ryan Leonesio each had multiple-hit games. Valdivia went three-for-four with two runs batted in, run scored, and a double. Perez was two-for-four with a double. Goldman was two-for-three with two runs scored. Leonesio drove in two runs, had two hits, scored a run, had a double, and and a sacrifice hit.
MOVIN' ON UP: Alex Solis now has 50 career doubles as a Warrior which is the record at Stan State in the NCAA DII ERA. Solis is now third with 193 hits, fifth with 103 runs scored, and tied for seventh with 95 runs batted in. Flavio Perez is eighth with 161 hits and seventh with 17 home runs.
UP NEXT: Stan State will conclude the series with Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif., tomorrow, Saturday, April 19 at noon. The Warriors will return home for the final time this regular season, April 25-27, with a four-game series against Cal State Monterey Bay. The series will begin on Friday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. on Blue Chip Broadcasting Sponsorship Night. The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader on Saturday, April 26. They will conclude the series with a noon starting game on Senior Day. Prior to the game at approximately 11:20 a.m., Stan State will recognize its 20 seniors.

The freshman runner is now 25th in the nation, second in the CCAA, and second on the Warriors' top ten list. Devin Hernandez captured the shot put at the Cal State L.A. Twilight yesterday with a throw of 53.7.75 (16.35m), which places him sixth on the Warrior top ten list. He also won the hammer at the Leopard Invite today with a throw of 180-1 (50.98m). Hernandez is third in the CCAA and sixth on the Warrior top ten list. He is third in the CCAA in the hammer.
- Baseball Pounds Out 21 hits and Score 16 Runs to Take Series Opener 16-8Stan State had six players with multiple-hit games to key its 16-8 series opener 16-8 victory at Cal State East Bay. The Warriors scored 15 of their 16 runs in the first five innings to key its win over the Pioneers. Flavio Perez had a five-hit game while Alex Solis drove in five runs including four on a grand slam home run. Danny Murphy also had five runs batted in for the victors. Quinn Oliver recorded the win in the start for the guests.
