Warrior Baseball Earns Fourth Consecutive ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Stanislaus State Baseball has once again been recognized for its outstanding performance in the classroom, earning the 2025 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Warriors, under the leadership of Head Coach Kenny Leonesio, have received this prestigious honor.
To qualify for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, programs must maintain a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Warriors posted an impressive team GPA of 3.40 for the academic year.
Stan State was one of nearly 300 high school programs and 440 collegiate programs recognized nationally this year. The Warriors were among three institutions from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) to receive the award, joining Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State East Bay.
In addition to the team accolade, several individual Warriors earned academic recognition for their work in the classroom this year:
- Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society: Six Warriors were inaugural inductees this May — Noah Chelberg, Ryan Leonesio, Danny Murphy, Patrick Sweeney, Robert Valdivia, and Tyler Van Dyk.
- Academic All-District Baseball Team: Named by the College Sports Communicators in June, honorees included Noah Chelberg, Ryan Leonesio, Danny Murphy, Patrick Sweeney, and Robert Valdivia.
- CCAA Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll: Fourteen Warriors earned this distinction: Jacob Baker, Noah Chelberg, Jace Eberhardt, Ryan Leonesio, Danny Murphy, Pierce Sailer, Austin Sargent, Jared Sawyer, Alex Solis, Patrick Sweeney, Robert Valdivia, and Tyler Van Dyk.
For their hard work on the diamond, three Warriors were named to the All-CCAA Team in Ryan Leonesio, Flavio Perez, and Robert Valdivia.
This recognition highlights the commitment of Warrior Baseball to academic success alongside athletic excellence, exemplifying the true spirit of student-athletes at Stanislaus State.
