Warriors Finish Road Trip Facing Coyotes and Broncos
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State finishes its four-game road trip this week, heading to Southern California. Cal State San Bernardino hosts the Warriors on Thursday, January 16th at 5:30 p.m. in the Coussoulis Arena. On Saturday, January 18th, the Warriors travel to play Cal Poly Pomona at the Kellogg Arena with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
LAST WEEK: San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay hosted the Warriors last week, with both teams unfortunately taking the win as well. Daja Scott-Mitchell put up good numbers in both games, leading Stan State in scoring both nights. The Gators defeated the Warriors 64-56, though three Warriors scored double digits. Daja Scott-Mitchell led with 18, followed by Da'Myiah Lewis with 17 and Alyssa Premo with 10. Both Scott-Mitchell and Lewis recorded double-doubles; Scott-Mitchell scored 18 points with 14 rebounds, and Lewis added 10 rebounds to her 17 points.
Cal State East Bay had the upper hand 64-37 on Saturday. Daja Scott-Mitchell led the Warriors with 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and an assist. As a team, Stan State snagged 40 rebounds with 28 of them being defensive. They held the Pioneers to 21.1% shooting in the second quarter.
WARRIORS IN REVIEW: At 4-10 overall and 3-5 in conference, the Warriors holding opponents to shooting 39% in field goals while outperforming them in blocks, currently averaging 3.8 per game. Stan State is currently averaging 59.3 points per game while giving up 70.8 points per game. They are catching up to opponents in steals, snagging 8.4 per game to opponents 9.2. Da'Myiah Lewis continues to lead in points (16.2 per game), rebounds (7.8 per game), and steals (1.7 per game). Talia Maxwell leads the team in blocks with a 2.3 blocks per game average. Jadyn Patterson is the team leader in assists, averaging 3.7 per game, and maintains a 1.14 assist-to-turnover ratio.
NCAA RANKINGS: Talia Maxwell currently ranks 38th in the nation in blocks, currently at 25 total blocks.
CCAA RANKINGS: As a team, Stan State is ranked in the top five in the conference in three statistical categories. The Warriors rank third in blocks per game with 3.8 and defensive rebounds per game with 26. They are fourth in free throw percentage at 71.9%.
Talia Maxwell, Da'Myiah Lewis, and Daja Scott-Mitchell rank in the top five in the conference in several categories as well. Maxwell is second in total blocks with 23. Lewis ranks fifth in rebounds per game (7.8), fourth in points per game (16.2) and total points (210), third in free throws (55), and second in defensive rebounds per game (5.7). Scott-Mitchell ranks fifth in the conference in offensive rebounds per game with 3.1.
SOLID PLAY FROM SCOTT-MITCHELL: Despite the losses, Daja Scott-Mitchell put up strong performances, earning a double-double in one game and putting up a total of 33 points and 22 rebounds over the two games.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Last week, Daja Scott-Mitchell and Da'Myiah Lewis earned double-doubles this week versus San Francsico State. Daja Scott-Mitchell has now recorded two this season since transferring from La Sierra University. Da'Myiah Lewis has four double-doubles this season, with six total in her career.
COYOTES IN REVIEW: Cal State San Bernardino (3-10, 2-6 CCAA) is currently outperforming their opponents in blocks, averaging nine per game. However, they are rebounding less and turning the ball over more often than their opponents. Lauryn Morris leads the team in points, averaging 13.1 points per game, and rebounds with 8.5 per game. Jaida Jackson is the team leader in assists with 4.2 assists per game and an even one-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio. Jackson also leads in steals, averaging 2.3 per game. Mia Dufresne leads the team in blocks with 2.5 per game and is second on the team in rebounds with 8.4 per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Coyotes lead the all-time series, dating back to January 11th, 2008, 20-13. Last season, the two teams split the series, with Stan State taking the game at the Fitzpatrick Arena 74-63. Cal State San Bernardino won on their territory 70-58, which was the teams' most recent meeting.
BRONCOS IN REVIEW: Cal Poly Pomona is currently 12-2 overall and 7-1 in conference. They will host Cal State Monterey Bay before the Warriors arrive. They outpace their opponents in most statistical categories but fall short in blocks. Sydney Nelson leads the team in points with 14.7 per game. Nelson also leads in steals, nabbing 1.7 per game. Mydrea Moore leads in rebounds and blocks, averaging six rebounds per game and 0.8 blocks per game. Kalaya Buggs is the team leader in assists, averaging 3.3 per game and maintaining a 1.30 assist to turnover ratio.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State has faced the Broncos since January 12th, 2008, and Cal Poly Pomona leads the all-time series between the two teams 24-8. The Warriors won their last match-up, taking place in Pomona, Calif., 59-58.
