Stan State Women’s Soccer Opens 2025 Season with Four-Game Home Stretch

TURLOCK, Calif. — The Stanislaus State women's soccer program, led by veteran head coach Gabriel Bolton, is set to kick off the 2025 regular season with a four-match home stand at Warrior Stadium. The season begins Thursday, September 4 at 5:00 p.m. when the Warriors host Saint Martin's University.

The early slate gives Stan State a home-field edge, with seven of the team's first ten matches played in Turlock. The Warriors will aim to seize early momentum in front of their fans as they look to make another run in the ultra-competitive CCAA.

Returning to the pitch are 22 letter-winners from last season's squad that posted a 10-8-2 record and earned a spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament for the third straight year and 11th time in program history.
Among the standout returners is reigning D2CCA All-American and CCAA Midfielder of the Year Aliah Avila. She is joined by fellow All-CCAA honorees Shauna Johnston, Jocelin Roa, and Makeila Yancey.

Avila enters her junior season after a stellar 2024 campaign in which she scored nine goals, added four assists, and ranked second in the nation with seven game-winning goals — including a string of four straight and the decisive strike in a 2-0 victory over 2024 NCAA Division II National Champion Cal Poly Pomona.

Jocelin Roa wrapped up her season with five goals and two assists, continuing to be a consistent offensive presence. Makeila Yancey contributed two goals and one assist during her junior campaign, including the decisive game-winner in Stan State's 1-0 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt in the CCAA First Round Tournament. Shauna Johnston added two goals of her own — both game-winners — lifting the Warriors to regular season wins over Southern Oregon (2-1) and Cal Poly Humboldt (3-0).

The Warriors will kick off their 2025 regular season with four consecutive West Region match-ups at home, beginning with their opener against Saint Martin's on Thursday, September 4 at 5:00 p.m. Three days later, Stan State returns to Warrior Stadium to host Simon Fraser at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7 — their second straight opponent from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Red Leafs are coming off a strong 2024 campaign, finishing 14-4-3 and claiming the GNAC Tournament title.

The home stand continues under the lights with two match-ups against PacWest Conference opponents. Stan State welcomes Hawai'i Hilo on Wednesday, September 10, followed by Menlo College on Saturday, September 13, with both matches scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Hawai'i Hilo wrapped up last season with an impressive 14-3-3 record.

The Warriors then hit the road for a two-match stretch. They travel to Los Angeles on September 20 to face PacWest rival Biola at noon, before heading to Santa Barbara for a matchup with Westmont on September 25 at 12:30 p.m. Stan State will close out the non-conference slate on Sunday, September 28 with a 6:00 p.m. hosting UC Merced — a new member of the CCAA. The Bobcats, formerly part of the NAIA's CalPac Conference, finished their final NAIA season 12-4-2, capturing the CalPac Championship and advancing to the NAIA Quarterfinals.

Stan State will begin its CCAA season with a pair of home matches, October 3 vs. Cal State East Bay (7:00 p.m.) and October 5 vs. Cal State Los Angeles (2:00 p.m.).

The Warriors will hit the road for a three-match road trip beginning with Cal State San Bernardino at 3:00 p.m. on October 10 in San Bernardino.  They will continue its weekend in the Inland Empire with a 11:30 a.m. match against the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions, Cal Poly Pomona, in Pomona, Calif., on October 12. Five days later, Stan State will travel to Northern California for a 12:30 p.m. starting match with Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, Calif., on October 17.

Stan State returns home two days later October 19 to host Cal State San Marcos at 11:30 a.m.  The Warriors will continue their brief two-match home stand at 7:00 p.m. on October 24 hosting rival Chico State.

They will have their next two matches on the road, October 26-31.  Stan State begins this trip with a 2:00 p.m. match in Seaside, Calif., against Cal State Monterey Bay on October 26.  The Warriors will spend their Halloween (October 31) in Carson, Calif., for a 4:30 p.m. match with Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Stan State returns home for the final time of the regular season to host San Francisco State on Senior Day at 11:30 a.m., November 2.  Prior to the match, the Warriors will recognize their seniors.  They will be in Merced, Calif., for their final match of the regular season for a 2:00 p.m. against UC Merced.

The CCAA Championships begin November 9 with first-round games at higher-seeded campuses. The top two teams in the regular-season standings earn first-round byes. Semifinals and the championship will take place November 14 and 16 at Cardinale Stadium on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay.

The NCAA Division II Tournament begins November 21–23, with the semifinals and national championship set for December 11 and 13 at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.
