Warriors Make Southern California Journey for Two Matches
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State travels for two in Southern California, playing No.18 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, March 8th at 10:00 a.m. The Warriors make their way to Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, March 9th for a match scheduled at 11:00 a.m.
LAST WEEK: This past week, the Warriors split their matches. On February 28th, Jessup University visited and Stan State won on every court with each member of the team setting foot on the court to key the victory. Jaedyn Hendryx and Abigail Zhurko have won both of their doubles matches they have played with a 6-0 win versus Jessup. Nicollet Alexander took the win 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 2-1 in singles play. Abbigail Mulick and Parker Orlando did not play a doubles match, but each won their singles 6-0, 6-0.
Dominican University of California proved to be a strong opponent on March 1st. The Warriors claimed the doubles point, but struggled to close out the singles. Annabelle Mulick and Emma Yu won their doubles match 6-2 while Maiah White and Alyssa Tay claimed their victory in the doubles 6-4. Annabelle Mulick went on to win her singles 6-2, 6-1. Parker Orlando picked up the second singles point with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win.
STAN STATE WARRIORS: Stan State is 6-3 overall and 6-2 versus Division II opponents. Parker Orlando continues to lead in singles with a 7-2 record, picking up wins in both matches this week. Annabelle Mulick and Emma Yu have improved their doubles record to 6-3, also winning both of their matches this week.
COUGARS: Azusa Pacific University is on a winning streak at 8-0 this season and tied for 18th as of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings on February 26th. The Cougars have taken three of their wins 7-0, while their closest margin has been a 4-2 win over Biola University. The next was a 5-2 victory versus Point Loma University, where they took the doubles point after winning two and dropping one match and taking two of the singles matches with a tiebreaker. The Cougars will take on University of the Pacific and Washburn University before Stan State visits.
GOLDEN EAGLES: Cal State Los Angeles (1-5) has claimed their only win versus Jessup University in a 7-0 victory. The Golden Eagles have only lost 7-0 once, which was versus Point Loma. On two courts they forced a 7-5 set but could not find the win. Cal State Los Angeles has only claimed the doubles point once, which was in a 5-2 loss to Biola University. The Golden Eagles will visit Hope International to play a match before the Warriors travel to Los Angeles, Calif.
UP NEXT: Stan State returns home to host Westmont College on Wednesday, March 12th at 1:00 p.m. The Warriors then travel to Fresno Pacific University for a match at 12:00 p.m. om Saturday, March 25th.
