THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS
 
TWO SCHOOL RECORDS BROKEN, FIVE NCAA DII PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING TIMES
Stan State women's indoor track and field sent four distance runners in Najwa Chouati, Kaela Dishion, Jacqueline Sanchez, and Annie Wild to the UW Invitational this weekend in Seattle, Wash.  The four came back to campus with two school records broken and five NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying Times.
 
Kaela Dishion started the weekend for the Warriors with a school record time of 16:28.26 in the 5,000-meter run on Friday.  With her time, Dishion provisionally qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.  Also provisionally qualifying for the nationals were Najwa Chouati (16:46.41) and Jacqueline Sanchez (17:12.91).  Heading into this week, Dishion is eighth, Chouati is 14th, and Sanchez is 35th in the nation in Division II in the 5K.
 
The success continued Saturday in the mile as Annie Wild broke the school record with a time of 4:52.15.  Both Wild and Chouati both provisionally qualified for the nationals in the mile. Wild is 21st in the nation with her time and Chouati's time of 4:53.60 is 32nd heading into this week.  Dishion ran in the mile and ran a personal best time of 4:58.11.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TIED FOR FOURTH IN THE CCAA
After splitting its two games in the Bay Area, Stan State women's basketball is tied for fourth place with Cal State East Bay in the CCAA regular season standings.  The Warriors are two games out of second place (Cal Poly Pomona and Chico State).  They started their weekend with a 55-30 victory at SF State.  Asha Walker had a game high 14 points.  Mya Blake and Aunika Hornung each chipped in 10 points.  Stan State finished the weekend with a 72-70 overtime loss at Cal State East Bay on Saturday.  Blake paced the Warriors with 23 points and six steals.  Walker added a season high 16 points and four steals.  Talia Maxwell added 12 points for Stan State (12-11, 7-6 CCAA).
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL FINISH BAY AREA TRIP 1-1
Stan State went 1-1 in its two-game road trip to the Bay Area this weekend.  The Warriors started the weekend with a 72-52 loss at SF State.  Dontrell Hewlett led Stan State with seven points.  The Warriors bounced back with a 79-73 victory over Cal State East Bay, who was receiving votes in the national coaches' poll, on Saturday in Hayward.  Micah Boone paced the Warriors with a career high 22 points off the bench.  Hewlett and John Wade III each chipped in 14 points and Jonathan Tchengang added 11 points for the Warriors (6-13, 3-10 CCAA).
 
BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL SEASONS ARE HERE
Stan State baseball and softball seasons will begin this week.  The Warriors' baseball team will host Menlo College in their regular season home opener this Friday, February 2 at 5pm.  They will travel to Atherton, Calif., for a 2pm game with the Oaks on Saturday, February 3.  Stan State's softball team will play five games in the Concordia Kickoff Classic in Irvine, Calif., this Friday-Sunday, February 2-4.  They will face No. 25 Northwest Nazarene (2pm) and Chaminade (6:30pm) on Friday.  Saturday, the Warriors will face Biola (1:30pm) and Azusa Pacific (6:30pm).  Stan State will conclude the tournament on Sunday for an 11:30am starting game with Colorado Christian.
 
MEN'S GOLF AND OUTDOOR TRACK/FIELD'S SEASONS STARTING RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER
Stan State men's golf team will begin its season, February 12-13 in San Marcos at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational.  They will host the 49th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, March 25-26 at the Turlock Golf & Country Club.  The Warrior men and women's outdoor track and field season will begin February 17 in Fresno at the Sunbird Invite.  They will host the Kim Duyst Invitational, March 1-2 and the CCAA Championships, May 2-4. 
 
CCAA NETWORK/BLUE CHIP BROADCASTING
During the 2023-24 Academic Year, Warrior fans can watch the Stan State athletic teams on the CCAA Network for a monthly subscription rate of $9.95.  Fans can watch any Warrior athletic event that is hosted at any CCAA institution during that 30-day period. STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ARE KAELA DISHION AND ANNIE WILD
This Week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week are a pair of indoor track and field school record holders in Kaela Dishion and Annie Wild.
 
Dishion broke her teammate's Najwa Chouati school record in the 5,000-meter run with her personal best time of 16:28.26 at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Wash., this weekend.  With her third-place finish, Dishion provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.  She is currently eighth I the nation in the 5,000-meter.  The senior runner moved into sixth place on the Warrior top ten list in the mile with a time of 4:58.11. 
 
Wild broke the four-year Stan State record in the mile with a personal best time of 4:52.15 this afternoon at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Wash.  The freshman runner provisionally qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships with her ninth-place time.  She is currently 14th in the nation.
