Reis Named FloCollege/CCAA Defensive Player of the Week as No. 1 Warriors Extend Unbeaten Streak
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stanislaus State vice-captain Ian Reis has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, after anchoring a Warrior backline that did not allow a goal in two conference victories over the weekend — as the Warriors climbed to No. 1 in the nation for the first time in program history.
Reis, a senior center back and team vice-captain, led the newly top-ranked Stanislaus State Warriors to a 3–0 road win at Cal Poly Humboldt and a 1–0 home shutout of Cal State San Marcos. The Warriors limited their opponents to just 18 total shots and only nine on goal across both matches. Reis organized a defense that also conceded just two corner kicks all weekend and maintained a composed, disciplined shape throughout both matches.
Alongside Reis, the Warrior backline of Samuel Villanueva, Christian Brenes, Federico Barbieri, Ryan Rosas, David Lozano—plus goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez—was nearly flawless, helping the Warriors record their second and third straight shutouts and seventh of the season.
Behind that effort, the Warriors improved to 11–0–1 overall and 5–0–1 in the CCAA, extending their school-record unbeaten streak to 13 matches. Stanislaus State, now tied for first place in the CCAA standings with Cal State Dominguez Hills, ranks sixth in the nation in goal differential, seventh in goals-against average, and fifth in shutout percentage—underscoring their defensive dominance at the national level. Ruiz-Hernandez recorded nine saves and a perfect 1.000 save percentage across the two weekend clean sheets.
Reis becomes the fourth Warrior this season to earn a CCAA weekly award. Emmanuel Duran was named Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 1–7, Christian Brenes earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for Sept. 8–14, and Angel Ruiz-Hernandez was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 15–21.
The Warriors return home this Friday, Oct. 24, to host Chico State at 4:30 p.m. on Break the Record Night, before traveling to Seaside to face Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 11:30 a.m. Stanislaus State will then close the regular season with a road match at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m., before hosting UC Merced on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 11:30 a.m. in the regular-season home finale.
The CCAA Soccer Championship First Round is set for Nov. 8 at the site of the higher seed, while the top two seeds receive first-round byes. The semifinals and finals will be played at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay, Friday–Sunday, Nov. 14–15. The tournament champion will earn the CCAA's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
